University of Edinburgh vs King's College

I need some help with decisions.

I have been accepted to study abroad (English) at both King’s College London and the University of Edinburgh.

I applied to these programs because they are in cities I love, highly respected universities, and most importantly offered at least two creative writing courses each I’d be able to take.

It is very, very hard for me to choose. I’m going to list the pros of each, from my perspective.

I was wondering if anyone here has been at these universities/lived in London or Edinburgh and would like to offer me their opinion on each (or both) schools. It’d be nice to know which (if either) has a strong creative writing program, or at least some sort of reputation.

Edinburgh: -

Location—I’m extremely tempted by a beach nearby, even if it isn’t a “sand” beach, and a mountain you can climb. Scotland also seems very "mysterious" to me, for lack of a better word.

Culture—While London also has culture, I’d go so far to say that Edinburgh has preserved more of its original culture than London. Also, history, history, history…

Family—My ancestors are from Scotland.

Cons: The creative writing classes they offer I’ve already taken. Their classes are more of an “overview” and not like in America where you can pick assorted topics. You can only take six per year.

King’s—

Location: Slightly less enthusiastic, as I’ve never been a fan of huge cities, but from what I understand London is a beautiful city with marvelous countryside. Also, you'd be studying authors that literally lived blocks away.

Culture—Many, many museums and historical areas.

Classes—Their classes are by far more interesting, and you can take eight. They also offer two writing classes NOT offered at my home institution, or many other places.

Cons— I’m not really sure if the English “culture” is still very strong in a city so modernized. (Please don’t be offended if I’m wrong, I’m posting this here to get things straight.) I’m a little bit afraid of being lost in the crowd.

Please help, guys.

I have no experience, so cannot comment directly. I can only say that King’s College Cambridge evokes a sense of awe in me, and I assume others… might open doors.

Oh, never mind then!

If I were you, I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to live in London. It’s one of the top cities in the world. Besides, assuming you’ll be spending a year in the UK, you can visit Scotland during the school break if you want to.

I previously was studying abroad for my winter session (1 month) in London, and it was amazing. However, we did take a trip for two days to Edinburgh and I absolutely fell in love and did NOT want to leave! I also met some people from the University of Edinburgh who I still keep in touch with. I did visit King’s College, and although it has a prestige to it, the school is a pretty far drive to the center of London. However, University of Edinburgh is in walking distance of everything. If you really want to experience the CITY of London, Edinburgh is only a five hour train ride, and most of the ride is along the ocean so it is gorgeous and EASILY accessible. Also, if you go to Edinburgh, you get the city and the beautiful country side at the same time. Hope this helps!
