University of Florida 2025 — Regular Decision

She showed me her Instagram today and we went on the UF 2025 Facebook and I have to say that at least 150 kids from our town are going. It does seem like everyone who wanted to, got in. Same for FSU, with the addition of Pathways. It just seems like the Florida schools are adding programs to make up for the lack of new money they are getting because of prepaid and BF.

I talked to a parent yesterday who’s daughter did not get in and they are devastated. Both of their older kids were accepted in past years and she had better stats than both. Both parents are alums.
Don’t think that social media reflects reality, it does not. How many kids go on social media to tell everyone that they were rejected? Some do, but most don’t.

I know, unfortunately my D wants to get away from her high school world, and UF is an amazing school, she was admitted for fall, honors and I don’t want to pay for out of state. I have prepaid, full with local fees, one year of a dorm and she has 100% BF.

It’s hard to watch your kid work hard and then get into an amazing school and then be upset.

they are not. last years published data in the school newspaper indicated that fall had an acceptance rate of 28%.

Considering from what I see so far, it was much harder to get into UF last year than this year.

My main concern is that many OOS students accepted had lower hpas and lower SAT scores. How is that acceptable? In state students with higher hpas and SAT scores should take precedence I would think. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

We all need to remember that we are seeing a snapshot on here. There were over 40,000 applicants and lord only knows how many acceptances.

Because the state wants the money. So many in state kids have prepaid, I paid $15000, 18 years ago for 4 years plus a dorm.

Congratulations to your daughter. She got into a school she wanted, for the term she wanted, and into the honors program for which many qualified students were denied. Furthermore, it’s financially beneficial because of Bright Futures. I’m struggling with the perspective that she should be devastated or even concerned that other students from her high school also were admitted even if it was through Pace or another option. Seriously, good for them. UF is a big school. It is unlikely to feel like high school 2.0.

My daughter who was accepted and attends a highly competitive public school knows of many who were not accepted with excellent stats, a couple with 1500+ SAT. Certainly not everyone got accepted. A lot of kids were heartbroken on Friday. Your daughter should enjoy her achievement. The fact that others got in too, doesn’t minimize her accomplishment. She should be happy for her friends and not be devastated . I am sure her hard work in high school will pay off by doing really well in college too.

hey guys! Just curious as I’m having trouble deciding between UT (in state) and UF. Bc I’m first gen my parents have only rlly heard of UT from living in Tx and really want me to go there. However bc I’m a NMF who’s pre-health and know the COA scholarship could save us a bunch of money (although my parents are willing to pay for UT for me to be close by). Anyone have any input as to what the better choice w/o money as a factor is?

Both great schools. Pick the better fit for YOU. There’s way too much focus on rank. You live there four years. Both are outstanding choices.

Congratulations on your admission. You probably already know this but UF is the #6 best public school in the country as per US News. UT is #13. UF is very highly regarded for pre med. The UF hospital, Shands, is one of the top top teaching hospitals in the Southeast. I work in the medical field and I can tell you UF is at the very top when it comes to medicine. UT is a great school as well and as a proud dad of now three Gators I am obviously biased but I can’t speak highly enough about UF. Go Gators.

My son (in state) was accepted.
1420 SAT, 4.6 weighted
IB at a feeder school.

He’s pleasantly surprised but we’re a bit unprepared.

He only recently applied for housing, so my understanding is that on-campus housing is unlikely. True?

Are there any UF threads devoted to housing?

UT Austin is a much better school than UF. Don’t go by the rankings. McCombs School of Business is one of the top in the country, UF’s is not even in the top 10. Don’t waste your money going to UF from Texas.

I would definitely second this. You will be there for four years. Go where you will feel most comfortable and can afford. Don’t go into debt for either one and make sure you will be happy. Rankings are sometimes not worth the paper they are written on. I was in public school sector for years and the schools flip flopped every year. Focus on the program you want and what it has to offer and where you will enjoy being. My son’s counselor said she’s fed up with kids being hooked on the name of a school and they need to find the one where they will feel comfortable and then they will succeed and she is 1000% right. Both are great schools so don’t look at the rankings and don’t listen to anyone here who swears that one is much better than another. You aren’t comparing Harvard to a junior college. You are comparing two similar schools. There are some people on here (particularly today) who are looking at this personally through a crazy angle. You will do great wherever you are

See my post below. I wasn’t blunt but I basically said the same thing.

Edit: nvm this person seems to be trolling

@erc052970 I will tell you that my daughter (OOS) was flat out rejected and devastated. GPA is over 94, Super Score ACT is 31, AP’s, Honor’s, VP of a Club, Captain of a Varsity sport, Competitive dancer, lots of community service and good, consistent work experience.

So sorry, I hope she finds her place. My D has not decided yet what she wants to do. Where else is your D looking at?
