My daughter received the Gator nation scholarship. I am so proud of her.

My kid got an email, but is busy right now, I don’t know which one if any. We already know about the research one for 2k, so it could be only that one.

I got the Gator Nation Scholarship…just wondering but if I claim UF as my first choice for NMF (assuming the bill to revoke funding doesn’t go through), I’m guessing it would replace my gator nation scholarship and not stack?

Have you heard from anyone affiliated with UF regarding the legislation to revoke Benacquisto? I know it’s currently in committee, but it’s hard to know what the likelihood of it passing is. Sent an email to the scholarship office to try to hear from the school itself but am currently waiting to hear back.

pls update us when you get a response. thx

How selective are UF’s merit scholarships for OOS and how many students typically get selected for them?

No I have kind of placed UF on back burner for now. I am still waiting to hear from 4 schools that would trump UF and already in 2 that would. I don’t like that the scholarship isn’t from the school and subject to political whim. Even if it fails this term, it could get revoked next year. If it is revoked during any of the 4 years I would be at UF, I will strongly regret having chosen to go there. So I’m not seriously considering it at this point, which is a shame because I was so excited to get accepted with a full ride to such a great school. Things could change if UF commits to guarantee the Benacquisto and grandfather all of us in regardless what happens in future to the scholarship. But saving that, honestly, I’ll probably be going somewhere else.

Well, if they are released within a few minutes and some got, then they are out.

I see so many people on so many chains “wonder” if they are getting or not that I wish all colleges, not just Florida, let people know - all aid is out so you didn’t earn a scholarship.

Emory is the only one I know who does this but everyone wonders.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks for all your honest answers.

That is a good question. My daughter is NMF too, I remember seeing somewhere that they are stackable, but not able to find it again. @amsunshine do you know? TIA

Both WashU and USC have notices on portals for those who are not selected for scholarships. It’s a good practice. Hearing a NO is much better than hearing nothing.

This is almost too stupid to ask but as a National Merit Finalist who also received a merit scholarship I will just end up with the Cost of Attendance NM award as a maximum, right?

To all of you that got scholarships, were they posted in the same portal where you saw the admission decision?

I got an email linking to my admission page

Did you see a new update to your application and dated today instead of 02/26 as before?

No, the link to the scholarship was listed in the “Forms” section above “Enrollment Confirmation” and “get your UCF ID”

According to UF’s admissions page, merit scholarships stack on top of Benacquisto - so I’m assuming you’ll receive an additional stipend on top of COA.

I believe the gator nation scholarship is stackable with the Benacquisto. Only the Bright Future and Benacquisto are not stackable on each other as they are from the same source. That’s what said on the school webpage.

I don’t think that’s true, because Benacquisto gives you the full COA minus the Bright Futures award, so I would think that’s because Bright Futures covers the rest. But I guess that’s just semantics since ultimately it’s the state giving you the full COA and nothing more. But as far as I know, the Presidential Scholarship will stack with Benacquisto and give you money beyond the COA to do whatever you want with.

What is this thing about a bill that would revoke Benacquisto? I can’t find any bill like that on the news or anything.
