University of Florida 2025 — Regular Decision

Interesting question. Does anyone know the answer? Son received a sunshine scholarship.

So how would that work - you end up with a $20K stipend? I’m sorry for the silly question but I thought Benacquisto already covered pretty much everything.

Yes, if you got both Benacquisto and Bright Future, you will get a full ride, but nothing more than that. The Gator Nation Scholarship and others are from the university and are stackable on top.

That sounds unreal, but I think it’s true.

I’m not sure about that @NJ08809, Assuming you have the Gator Nation scholarship @nanosec, if you look in the terms in conditions it says “or the total costs of non-resident tuition per credit hour, whichever is less.” We already have the total cost of non-resident tuition, so I unfortunately am thinking we don’t get a 20 grand stipend, I am thinking we get zero from it.

That seems reasonable and fair, honestly. Maybe you can use for study abroad or research, but beyond that I’m not sure how that would work?

Wait, so we’re the last year eligible for Benacquisto if this bill passes? But NMFs who are high school seniors right now are definitely getting Benacquisto, right?

You may want to reach out to the school to check it out. Here is a contact I got from a post on CC. Good luck!

That’s what suggested in the proposal. We will see what happens tomorrow.

Hmmm, okay. I’m trying to decide colleges (my dream school is Georgia Tech but UF is putting a lot of money on the line here) and Benacquisto would be a major factor in that decision if I choose UF. I would be very annoyed if they took that away after I committed. I’m not sure why they’d cut Benacquisto in general, but as long as we’re guaranteed full COA via Benacquisto for four years, then I guess it doesn’t affect my decision what years after me get.

deleted cause it might be misinformation

On the same boat here. We still have a month and half before having to make the final decision. It’s safer to evaluate other options in the meanwhile. Hopefully, everything works out fine.

That I don’t know! This is something to ask UF about to see what their policy is. I only have experience with smaller outside scholarships at FSU, which do stack. Even if it doesn’t stack, if Benacquisto goes away, the Gator Nation will still be there to cover a good portion (all?) of expenses.

If it does stack, be aware the student will have a pretty hefty tax bill at the end of the year.

Do the students have to pay taxes for the Benacquisto scholarship and the waived OOS fees? I am not sure if they are considered as incomes.

Yes - I’m pretty sure there are tax implications for at least a portion of it (if I recall correctly from what others posted in previous years). There is a Benacquisto thread somewhere on CC.

Hey guys! Did the in-state Presidential Scholarships come out today too?

Thank you! I really appreciate your help. It makes sense that there will be tax implications especially if they stack. The one positive thing is that if Benacquisto is reduced or worse revoked, she will at least get most of her OOS tuition with the Gator nation.

Only the portions of the scholarship which cover tuition and books are non-taxable. The rest is taxed as income.

Thanks for the clarification.

I’m bummed DS didn’t get a merit scholarship when his older brother got one with lower stats, but on the bright side, love to see how competitive UF is getting! He will still be going, most likely, even w/o the scholarship, though it would have been really helpful. Congrats to all who were awarded a scholarship! Go Gators!
