The University of Florida is a hotbed for international students, according to a report released today.

In a survey of universities in the U.S., UF ranked No. 17 for the largest number of international students, hosting 3,921 students from overseas in the 2006-07 academic year. The "Open Doors" report was issued by the Institute of International Education, a nonprofit group that promotes the global exchange of ideas.

The University of Southern California, where 7,115 international students were enrolled last year, had the largest international population.

It's not too surprising that UF's number of international students is on the high end, because its more than 50,000 students make UF one of the largest universities in the country.

That's kind of surprising given the fact that UF doesn't give financial assistance to int'l undergrads. It's that one little thing that made my parents refuse to let me apply to UF.

International Students pay out-of-stat tution. This is only around 17k a year for Undergraduate tuition. Keep in perspective housing is disgustingly cheap in Gainesville (only like $350 if you get something modest).

I did the calculations, and if you add up the intagibles as well (food, clothing, health insurance) it ends up being around 90k for the entire 4 year experience.

If you think that is too expensive, then you need to keep in perspective that Boston University, University of Miami, and Pepperdine will cost well over 300k total.

So in summation you get a top education for 1/3rd the price of some of the private universities in the United States.

That's actually a bad thing. The Legislature keeps the tuition so low it is strangling the money that we have to spend on the students. At least now, we will have Tuition Differential which will generate $70 million a year to increase the total number of faculty, reduce class-sizes, and increase the total number of advisors.

Out-of-State tuition is only 17k a year, whereas Penn State University is 21k a year for In-State tuition.

The problem is the Legislature is keeping UF down. If this flagship was allowed to charge a comparable rate to the other top publics, then we wouldn't have so many funding issues. But the Tuition Issue is being settled in court, and the Board of Governors may end up getting control from the FL Legislature.

u cant just compare uf's tuition with others, u also have to consider how the other schools award more scholarships. uf may seem a good deal oos, but some other schools like the cal schools award more scholarships to their students.

I believe there are hardly any scholarships for UF, at least none that I could find. They really don't need to award them, since people will be willing to pay the price anyway. Since Bright Futures covers tuition, it's still a great deal.

bright future used to cover 100%, until last year I THINK, when they raised tuition, and bright future did not cover the raise and still doesnt.
i think a-hole bernie will eventually raised tuition and bright future wont cover the raise, and we will see more angry fl parents who have to pay the extra. but thats just wat i think
