University of Florida or Clemson for Business/Actuarial?

My son has to choose between these two fine Universities. He plans on Majoring in Business with a Minor in Mathematical Science (Actuarial). The goal is to pass two of the Actuarial exams, maybe even a third. He’s a distance runner so the Running Clubs at both schools are a key part of his decision. Florida appears to offer more in terms of competitiveness as they compete against D2 and D3 schools. The Clemson Running Club is great as well but seems to be a little less structured. My son is fairly competitive and I think he really likes the idea of competing more at Florida. And running is a very big part of his life.

We are OOS but plan on moving to wherever he chooses to go to school. As it stands now Clemson is going to cost us about $10,000 more per year. It’s a really tough choice. Florida seems to have a better academic reputation, but Clemson is just such a great campus and the kids all seem to be so happy there. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

UF all day long. And for less money. It’s really an easy decision with the running element as well

UF is ranked #9 of all public unis

Clemson is very good too but UF is tough ticket these days especially OOS.

Congrats and good luck!

Check to see if a minor in actuarial math is sufficient, or even exists. You will need a lot of math to pass those first few exams.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, you are correct that one needs to carefully structure a plan to minor in Actuarial and have all the necessary course work needed for entry into the career. I believe my son can do this at both schools.

Any other advice on either Florida or Clemson? Thanks again everyone. This is a great forum.
