University of Florida Out-Of-State Tuition Waiver?

I live in Texas, but I was considering going to the University of Florida. However, I don't know if I'll be able to if I have to pay out-of-state tuition. This is what the UF says on their website:
"As a recipient of the out-of-state tuition reduction waiver, you receive $2,000 per semester of eligibility. You must complete a minimum of 24 hours at the University of Florida in the fall, spring and summer semesters and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.7 to renew your waiver."

Does this mean that I'll only get $2,000 of extra scholarship money to help pay for tuition?

It sounds like their tuition reduction for OOS students is $2000…IF you actually receive it.

That sounds like their NMF award - it gives out-of-state tuition waiver plus $2,000 per semester.

That would be a very nice award…reduction to OOS tuition AND $4000 a year in addition!

OP, are you a NMSF?

To me it sounds like they’re giving you $2,000 per semester to help pay down OOS tuition.

There’s a University of Florida forum. Posters there may be more familiar with how the out-of-state waivers work, you might want to try a post there:

Are you a junior or senior?

It is very hard to get accepted OOS to UFlorida. They accept few OOS students.

It sounds like that scholarship offer (if you were to get it), only cuts $4k per year off the OOS tuition…So, you’d still have to pay for MOST of the OOS costs.

Are you a NMF?

What are your test scores? (SAT breakdown or ACT composite).
What is your GPA.

Usually, scholarships are based on test scores.

I have a 3.76 GPA (unweighted) and I got a 31 on ACT, but I plan to retake it in April.

Can you provide a link to the above scholarship? I’m finding old links to old scholarships, but not to a currently offered one. Thanks.

Can you qualify for NMSF status with the ACT?

OP, what makes you think you will qualify for this instate tuition reduction?

^^^

No, you can’t qualify for NMSF/F with the ACT.

I’m not even sure if the scholarship that she’s quoting from is a current offer. When I’ve tried to search for it, I keep coming up with old scholarships. But, I may just be missing it.

XxMarilyn. Are you hoping to get this waiver or are you sure you will qualify? If this is a NMS scholarship, you needed to take the PSAT and meet the cutoff for your state. You also must take the SAT, and have a certain GPA to become a NMSF.

Your original post made it sound like you already qualified for this. I’m not sure that is the case…and it is NOT easy to do so.

I’m a junior and I took the PSAT in either October or November, but I missed being a NMSF by 100 points in Texas.

This is the link to the current OOS scholarships:

This was the only thing I found when I searched for OOS tuition waiver. I choose 2010-2011 because it was the most recent one available.

Marilyn, there is NO guarantee you will actually RECEIVE an out of state tuition waiver. No guarantee at all. Apply and see, but you should also have a financial safety in your application list as well…and most OOS public universities will not fill that requirement.

Marilyn…Thumper is right. Not only is it not likely that you’d actually get an OOS waiver, but UF doesn’t accept many OOS students. UF is now stingy with merit.

Is an ACT 31 your highest composite? If so, that’s not likely going to get anything from UF.

You need to apply to some schools that will for sure give you needed merit.

Mom2CK, problem with your phone? The post is 5 months old.
