Can anybody that goes to UF give me a little description of what campus life is like there? How are the students and the community? Also, what are the class sizes like? I’ve been considering UF for awhile and I’d love to know more than what the website tells! Thanks!
Hi! I’m a student at UF right now and I love it more than anything! UF was not my first choice when it came to colleges, but I ended up choosing UF because they were the most generous with Financial Aid. Even though we do have a lot of students, this campus has a great sense of community. The majority of the people are very, very nice, and will do everything to help you succeed. I try to visit an advisor weekly, and they have never turned me down. Everyone looks out for each other, it’s very sweet. One thing I do recommend students do if they decide to come to UF is join a club or an organization, and find a “mentor” ASAP. Finding your place on campus is incredibly important to a student’s success. The class sizes are the same at any university. Popular, introduction classes like Chemistry or Calculus will be in a lecture room, with a weekly discussion section that will have maximum 25-30 students and will be led by the TA. Discussions are very helpful because they allow you to get that one-on-one attention. After your first year, your classes will get a lot smaller. By the time you hit senior year, you’ll have 20 students in a class (or even less if you’re lucky).
I hope you come to UF! It’s a great school, and getting more prestigious every year. Our new president used to be the provost at Cornell, and he is determined in making this the best public university in the country, and with his experience, he certainly will!
@evscotti Thank you so much! I wanted to hear what it was like from a student that is currently attending; you just don’t get the full feel from UF’s website. It’s nice learning about how the students actually view the university. I’ve been considering UF for awhile now (it’s second on my list) and it’s great to hear that about the financial aid! UF sounds like the perfect choice, with it being a great school and having a strong sense of community. Thank you again and I will certainly keep this information in mind when I start applying!
