Hi everyone!!
I was wondering how is uofhawaii manoa for a person like me.
I live in California, have 3.7-3.8 (UW) GPA, 4.3-4.4 (W) GPA, 1490/1600 on the SAT, 790 on SAT 2 Korean, and 700s for math, and 600s in US, played water polo.
I want to major in biology and go in for pre med because I heard the school’s program is quite good.
And is there a huge possibility for me to get a full ride and get into the honors program?
I don’t want to go to really hard schools because I didn’t do as well in science and math at school and I want to somehow enjoy my college experience. So please let me know
It will be difficult and expensive to get to medical school interviews outside of Hawaii if you attend undergraduate in Hawaii.
Any school that prepares you well for Med school will have “hard” science and math courses, or you won’t do well on MCAT or Med school. What CA schools are you also considering?
How come it’s hard to get to interviews outside of HI?

I’m thinking about UCSD. It has an exceptional program but I believe it’s really hard for me… Would HI prepare well enough for medical school? I’m thinking about going back to California for grad school (UCSD USC UCSF )

It is getting to such interviews (if you get any) that can be the problem. It will be a 5 hour flight to the west coast of the mainland, and more hours of flying to get to other places (e.g. another 5 hours to the east coast). If all medical school interviews other than University of Hawaii involve 10-20 hours in airplanes (plus extra hours of ground transportation, arriving early at the airport to go through security, etc.), plus the cost of all of those airline tickets, that can be a significant hassle when you apply to medical schools.
Note that pre-meds are lucky to get even one medical school admission (half of pre-meds who make it to applying get zero admissions). So you may not have much choice of medical school to attend, if any.
