University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign (UIUC) vs Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)

I am on the verge of picking between the Pre-Engineering Program (PREP) at UIUC or computer science at IIT.

Note: I didn’t get into my intended major (CS) for UIUC and have read from multiple sources that the PREP program is not worth it.

Both colleges are ABSOLUTELY FREE (god bless) so I am not worried about the tuition or other fees. Can anyone share their experience with PREP at UIUC or their experience with being a Collens scholarship and Elevate scholarship receipt at IIT. Much appreciated!

My D graduates soon from IIT (engineering). She has had an excellent experience there and many opportunities. She has had several internships, research opportunity, and has a job lined up for when she graduates. This is common at IIT. She has a CS major friend who had an internship last summer (after sophomore year) and had several research and internship offers for this summer to choose from. He’s doing interesting research during the school year as well. Both like the school and are happy with the education they are getting.

@xraymancs is an IIT professor and may be a good resource for more info about IIT.

@NedsDeclassified - If you have any specific questions about Illinois Tech, feel free to ask. @Parentof2014grad is on target. Our students have a lot of internship and job opportunities, they just need to seek them out.

My daughter is in the same situation. I’m curious where did you decide to go?
