Hello,
Currently I am deciding between two very different universities: University of Iowa and Emory University. I have evaluated both of my options and still cannot decide which school would be the best fit for me. I am admitted to both nursing programs and have visited both schools. Currently, I have to pay $22k at Iowa and $33k at Emory. If I attend Iowa, I will graduate with no debt, however, if I graduate from Emory, my parents will only be able to pay for 3 years, meaning I would have loans for the forth year.
I plan on attending grad school after my bacchelors degree and will have no choice but to take loans then.
I’m unsure what decision I should make, I loved the diversity at Emory and feel like their alumni connection/ connections could be really useful yet do not like the price tag (or distance–11 hr drive), yet am worried I will not have as many opportunities at Iowa and feel like their school isn’t as diverse (Hispanic/Black demographic).
All the help/advice would be greatly appreciated (especially since decision day is coming up!).
Thanks!

Iowa…great school, great town, great sports, great people. No debt. No brainer.
How much in loans are we talking about?
Will you be taking your federal loans the first, 2nd, and third years, “banking” them to use them during your fourth, or are we talking 7.5K for your 4th year?
Are you saying your parents have about 100K saved for your education (or can have the equivalent from their income), and so, you’d have to pay 33K yourself your 4th year?
Are you direct admit to Nursing at both?
Why are you thinking about grad school - do you mean that you want to become an NP? (If so, you’ll have to work first before you apply for those programs as professional experience is necessary to get in).
@MYOS1634 I think I will need to take loans out every year so that it is the equivalent to 33k (I think in the end it could be about 40k bacause of transportation and such).
I’m direct admit to both programs and eventually want to get into graduate school and know that I wont get any aid so I’ll have even more loans then.
Im also unsure about the social aspect of either school
Emory will have more wealthy kids and more resources and connections.
Emory
If you are going into nursing, Iowa is just fine. It’s a good school all-around, lots of fun, gobs of school spirit, and no debt involved in your case.
@notarobot124 any reasons/support?
My bet would be on Iowa. Graduate with no debt. Get there and knock their socks off. Save your money for graduate school. You have no idea how many colleagues I have talked to about how their school debt has been an incredible burden to them. It’s liberating to graduate with no debt and launch your life as a young adult debt free.
@conflicted126 Emory will provide you with more individualized attention and resources to succeed

What does that mean???
Do you realize that you can only borrow $7500 your senior year?
Why don’t your parents divide what they can pay by four years???

Go to U of IA. Graduate debt-free. You will have a lot more flexibility in where you look for a job after graduation and where you will be able to look for graduate programs. Truly. You are fortunate to have the option to not owe any money for your education. That is a huge blessing.
I am a nurse (BSN) with a DD that is graduating BSN at a state university with no debt this week.
U of IA.
Save $$ for your graduate plans.
