Helpppp I am so conflicted.
I got into Emory as under the Liberal Arts College on the pre-nursing track. I LOVE the school. I like the class sizes, Atlanta, and the diversity. However, it will be about 48k to attend with financial aid and everything.
My other option is Texas A&M. I like the school, and I like the nursing school. and it would definitely be affordable for my family (it’s about 24k and my family can pay 26k without debt max). The only thing is that it is huge, I am not sure if I will fit in, and I don’t feel as comfortable.
Should I commit to Emory and take out loans? Or should I stick with A&M?
@Lilac008 Oh, I thought you were comparing Emory and UT Austin (guess you made a mistake or wanted to grab attention)
Wait, so is this 48k a year or 48k total and thus for Emory, you would have to take out a 22k loan (based on ho much you said your family can pay). You sure you can’t just try A and M and then transfer if you don’t like it (maybe to somewhere like UTAustin if it has a nursing school or Emory if you’re still interested), it will save 12 grand if my calculation is right. But all in all, if you think better comfort/having a good fit is worth a 22k loan (will likely be made up if you successfully get through nursing), then you can consider coming to Emory. Just make sure you do well.
48k a year or 48k total?
Because 48k - 26k = 22k, and 22k of student debt is barely anything. You’d get that paid off in less than 3 years without sacrificing your lifestyle.
I meant UT Austin!Sorry force of habit (my sibling goes to A&M lol). This is 48K a year for Emory. I would have to take out 22k in loans each year. So it’s
Nope, start at A and M unless you think you can apply to crap tons of scholarships beginning your freshman year. Don’t bother…
I think you should evaluate how much this means to you, and if you feel like it’s worth it, sit down with your parents and talk about what happens if you both go into debt.
Do you have any siblings?
Yes I have an older sister. She is graduating college in a year so our grant goes down after this year, which is why I would have to take out a lot of loans.
Still conflicted. I haven’t visited the school because I don’t want to fall in love with it. But I’m already longing to go there as a student even though I can’t. Ughhhhh #FAproblems
To be honest, it just seems like a bad idea for you to attend Emory. Financially, it doesn’t make sense.
True. I’m just going to stick with UT Austin. After all it’s still a great education. Thanks guys.
