There were over 2,200 applicants this year for Competitive scholarships and the University only awarded 25 Singletary and 50 Presidential awards.
How do you have that information? My daughter has heard nothing about academic or selective. We have heard from every school she applied. Iām pretty annoyed w uk. Her friends had lower scores are received highest academic. Frustrated in ohio
Completely agree. Have heard nothing. Submitted everything back in September. Would be nice if they could at least let us know. Full ride five other schools, 35 ACT. At least tell us. So frustrating.
Email from Scholarship Advisor. Also Competitive award letters were mailed out last week so you will be receiving an official award or declination letter in the mail in the next bit.
D received an email that she did not get a departmental scholarship she had applied for.
However, we still have not received any word regarding general or competitive academic scholarships. There is no type of financial aid showing in her portal yet.
Anybody else still waiting to hear for scholarships? Beyond frustrated at this point.
Got a random scholarship for $9299 just today. Her friends had lower gpa and act score by quite a bit and got the $12500 bluegrass award. Makes no sense. Still waiting for the rejection letter for presidential.
You got that instead of the $12,500 or on top of it? So strange how theyāre doing it.
Just got the 9299.
I contacted UK and they said to keep checking the Financials tab because more scholarship notifications would be released this week.
I know itās been nearly a month since you posted this, but I thought Iād shed some light on this. If you havenāt already called UKās academic scholarship office, hereās what happened. Due to 2020 being 2020, they had lower than usual scholarship funds. As a result they gave out Bluegrass awards on a first come, first served basis (based on application date). The cutoff for available funds for the Bluegrass was 11/28/2020. All applicants after that date did not get the Bluegrass scholarship, at least not right away on 3/15. Once UK knew who wasnāt accepting their Bluegrass Spirit awards, that money went back into the budget (some kids got the Presidential, maybe the Singletary, others may have declined for one reason or another). Once the budget was replenished, UK made additional offers starting with 11/29/2020 applicants and so onā¦ So, in your case where another kid had a lower GPA and ACT than your child, if the other person applied before 11/28 and met the requirements, they got the Bluegrass, and I assume your child applied on 11/29 or after that. The good news is, UK has received some of the awarded Bluegrass scholarships back and they have started offering them to other applicants that met the requirements. This will continue into May and will likely accelerate after May 2nd because applicants have to accept their Bluegrass awards by May 1st or they lose them. One word of caution, even if these funds free up on 5/2, it could take this department a week or so, to determine how far to move the application cutoff date (they could even divert funds to other scholarships, I am not privy to that info). So, if your child is heart broken over not getting the Bluegrass Spirit award, and this prevents them from becoming a Wildcat, there may still be a chance, albeit not ideal for selecting dorms and roommatesā¦
