do they send any undergraduates to ib's? Maryland has a really good econ program as well outside of the business school. can econ majors get into analyst jobs in ib's?

You should search on linkedin and try to meet other business majors - see if they have an investment club, research job placement, talk to teachers, etc.

I know one person who got into Goldman Sachs, and two people who are going into J.P Morgan. All three are hired as analysts after their summer internships. The first one was in the QUEST honors program, and the last two were really good at math besides speaking three languages.

My closest friend got interviewed by GS for a quant position. He is double majoring pure math and finance.

Do yourself a favor and drop your econ degree. It is completely useless unless you team it up with applied math.

I actually attend the Smith School and know all the people going into IB and some into S&T, so I can speak to this. The econ program is good but it would be best to take a finance major in the Smith School. That said, the key to people landing IB was Networking. Except for one person I know, mostly everyone going into IB got in through other connections to landing interviews and going from there. I actually landed 2 IB offers at MMs through Cold-Calling (which is an entirely another process on itself). You can PM for more info on IB, breaking into the industry, best programs to take a Smith for that and so forth…
