I'm curious to see what the odds of obtaining an IB job/internship attending Michigan, but not getting into Ross business school. I'm either attending MSU or Michigan next year, I know that Ross is a decent place to be discovered for IB, but I'm not sure about the school itself. It's extremely hard to get into Ross so I'm looking into all of the options available.

I go to Michigan State right now
As a finance/econ double major I’d say I have a better chance than 80% of UMich LSA, including all those Econ majors (aka Ross rejects)
Networking is key, doesn’t matter if you go to Wharton or Non-Target Technical College

Really? If you don’t mind me asking what year are you in/have you gotten any internships for big banks or decent boutiques? My entire family has went to MSU and that was my plan until I really became interested in IB. Do you have any connections in the industry or are you attempting to break your way in? If you wouldn’t mind PMing me I have a few more questions I’d like to ask you. Thanks a lot!

I did hear somewhere that Wall Street firms hire most undergrad interns from certain target schools like Wharton, Ross, Stern, etc. Now, I do know several econ/finance majors at prestigious schools who got hired as summer associates at places like GS, but these schools are very highly ranked. If you go to UM, the highest chances to do IB is to go to Ross. You can always apply for admission freshman year!

Go to Michigan and apply to Ross once you’re there. That is, if they allow students to do so. You’re going to need some real hustle, though; even Ross kids have tough competition against HYPW kids.
