I need help! I can't find the audition requirements anywhere for NYC unifieds anywhere for the BFA MT program. I remember looking at it like 5 months ago and now I cant find it! Does anyone know the audition requirements? I think i remember it saying that you have to have two contemp. monos. My school prepares students with a classical and contemp. only, but my school counselor said they dont care bc our school is respected by them blah blah blah. Does anyone know how long they have can be and how long the two songs must be??

i did not get my confirmation email for umiami's audition in nyc tomorrow and all i know is that the audition is at AMA studios ... but i cant find an address ... does anyone have it?

Our s is applying at UM in Musical Theatre -- is there a BA and a BFA and can you only apply for one? He's auditioning and they've been very encouraging (despite that he has a 3.8 and only a 1760 on the SAT and a 27 on the ACT) so they can't only accept FOUR boys. Why would they want him to try out then, if they had their quota, in case someone refuses? I'm just curious. And what's the music theory exam?

If I remember correctly they have 2 MT degrees, one through Theatre (BFA) and one though Music (BM); so perhaps they accept 4 boys/girls in each program? And I wouldn't think they've filled the spots yet, they're in the middle of auditions.

If you look at the thread on the U. Miami forum titled BM in Music Theatre, a mom of a U.M. student mentioned that there were 8 BM students and 8 BFA students in her son's class. That would mean that U.M. accepts around 8 boys into their MT program each year. U.M. does not have rolling admission - very few of the small MT programs do. The faculty want to see all of the kids' audiitons before making their selections.

Thank you.
He's on about it, but heck, unless he gets a whopper doodle of a scholarship, that's out of our league financially.
It's got some elements he really, really likes, though.
Hope they like him!

The former dean of the Frost School said that they were more concerned with the student's ability to do the work than with the scores they present. It's not used as a culling tool so much as a guideline of the student's chance for success and it's different, so she implied in a sense, for acting students than, for example, engineers. Hooray for BRENDAN!

I mean, how many people even audition FOR the bm and bfas? IS it like carnegie mellon where over 1000+ people audition for like 8 spots, or...is it like indiana where maybe 350-400 people audition ? OR even smaller haha. I would just think the competition would be absolutely astronomical if it was like cmu lol.

Hey! I'm a freshman right now at the University of miami. I'm not exactly sure the number of kids who audition for the program but i do know its definitiely closer to Indiana University's numbers then Carengie mellon. If you have any more questions feel free to PM me!

3.3 GPA in a private school, 2000 on SATs, really good extra curriculars, no disciplinary record, great recommendations, and applied as a minority...Full paying student
I applied early decision, and I got differed...?

Did you apply for MT? If not, you're on the wrong thread. If so, you need to realize that the audition is an extremely important part of the equation, and no matter how stellar the academics, it won't overweigh the audition.

I graduated from a private college prep school in FL, had a 3.6 GPA, great extracurriculars including awards and a part-time job, great recommendation letters and I got rejected from UMiami, (I didn't audition for MT, I was going for Broadcast Journalism at the time). Most of my friends that got in academically had about a 3.8 or higher and at least a 1370 (verbal and math on SAT) and got almost a full-ride each year, because UMiami gives equal scholarships to most based on GPA levels and SAT/ACT levels. And I don't know where a minority status comes into the equation for academic acceptance there or anywhere, I think everyone (all races and colors) is just as smart and capable as the other (especially now with such a wonderful man as President) and has the same abilities to do well, but that's just me, but I have heard that at some schools being a minority helps, I'm not sure with Miami though because it is such a melting pot. Best of Luck, Congrats on being deferred, it's not an easy school to get into and you're halfway there :)

I have not heard of anyone who has heard yet (that doesn't mean nobody has but not to my knowledge)....for the MT programs (I have a student admitted for a BA already though who did not audition).

The admissions person who is involved with the mt process said they were working on it toward the end of last week and the letters should go out sometime after that. I would expect you should be hearing within the next week or two.

DD did a walk in at the Unifieds in LA and had a great experience. She had a blast in the dance call and thought her audition went well. This is a school that was not on her radar, but now she is very interested.

Everyone was really nice and accomodating to the walk-ins.
