University of Miami

What is going to UM really like? I want to major in business.

UM’s a really good school academically and socially. I live in Miami and nearly all my cousins attended and I have friends who also attend so I’m pretty familiar with the school. Since it is a private college, the classes are definitely smaller than FIU or any other state school in Florida. So far, I have not heard any of cousins or friends complain about the quality of the professors and actually a close friend of mine is a business major and he really likes the program and seems to be really happy with the classes. The campus is really nice and it’s located in Coral Gables where there’s lots of shops and restaurants. If you’re looking for that “college experience” of partying you’ll find it at UM, especially since UM takes pride in their football team. In general, students in Miami, whether in high school or in college, spend a lot of time at Miami beach or taking the boat out to Mashta Flats. It’s very common in Miami to have a friend that owns a boat and go out on the water during regatta season. If you live on campus, there’s of course parties and greek life. To sum it up, UM is a great school, I’ve lived in Miami my whole life and have met a generous amount of people who have either graduated or currently attend UM and I’ve never heard anything bad about it academically or socially. The only thing I’ve heard of is that it’s very expensive if you do not get a scholarship or a generous amount of financial aid and some people do not think it is worth the cost when it’s ranked nearly the same as UF and UF is significantly cheaper. If you don’t live in a big city like Miami now, when you come to UM it’ll definitely be a change because Miami is so diverse and there’s a big nightlife scene. I hope this helps!
