University of Michigan 2023 waitlisted applicants

I saw a post from a reliable source on another thread that Harvard is going to their waitlist. A large public like UMich NOT going to waitlist would seem implausible.

“Just saying.”

@mstack I also watch the Cal Poly SLO waitlist thread. SLO didn’t annouce that at least some of their waitlist decisons were being released yesterday (5/15/19), but last year’s CC thread had waitlist decisions being released on 5/15. The UC’s are similar. Not every school announces the date of their waitlist decisions, but the last few years, UMich has released their decisions in the 5/22-5/24 date range.

If this year is anything like last year, then 50% of the acceptances were back in December. UMich had RD releases on 2/1, 3/1 and 3/29. Personally, I like UMich’s system better than the UC’s, which all release in mid-to-late March and have no EA or these earlier RD releases like UMich.

True. A friend told me that his daughter didn’t come off of Michigan’s wait list until the last week in July. She declined the offer.

Most schools have a “summer melt.”

A few years ago UofM did not take anyone off the wait list so it is not unheard of just for perspective.

Has everyone seen this basic verbiage from UMich on their website about their waitlist? Just an FYI. Nothing new here.

The only year that I could find recently was 2007, where 0 were admitted from the waitlist.

According to the CDS’s between the years of 2009-2014, UMich took anywhere from 42 to 100 students from the waitlist.

The link I posted above shows the following for the last 4 years:

For the past decade +/-, UMich has gone to their waitlist.

However, this year, they took students off the waitlist on 4/19. So, I’m guessing that the numbers will be much less than in 2017 or 2018. It looks like they may have filled their class and will only replace the spots with admitted students who got off the waitlist somewhere else.

They took students off the waitlist on 4/19?

A. There’s no evidence of that actually happening, but UMich did offer waitlist positions to students though.
B. With the deadline to accept offers on 5/1, UMich would not know their “final” yield, so why UMich start to admit from the waitlist that they just begun to offer?

so do people think we are going to be finding out this week?

Friday at 5:00 is my guess. It’s Memorial day weekend so they will be closed after 5:00 and then no calls on Monday since it’s the holiday.

Any news for the waitlist? Tomorrow? Friday?

Though they’ve offered admission to 400+ each of the past two years, every year is different. As sushiritto pointed out, just three years ago it was only 36. All indications are that this year will more closely resemble 2015 or 2016, with little movement from the waitlist.

Please don’t stay up until midnight refreshing your Wolverine Access profile. Nothing is happening this week.

@danloeb seems like he knows a lot of inside info about the admissions processed based on his previous post over the last 3 years… I don’t want to give up hope though:(

I’m just reposting from one of my earlier posts:

While I don’t think there will be “waves,” I kinda think a few may still hear this week. Please post if you do hear something.

Thank you so much for the information @danloeb. Curious what you see as “all indications” that this will be closer to 2015/2016?

Agree. I find it hard to find any indications that they’re not taking students from the waitlist. Last year there were 400 admits, and they were not released until May 24th.

When my college counselor called the admissions office, they said that the waitlist will not be “inactive” this year.

Best of Luck everyone!!

Any news?
