University of Michigan - 7th semester grades requested?

I recieved a letter from University of Michigan about my admissions. They said they wanted to see my 7th semester grades, and would reply to me in mid-April. I applied to the Engineering school, and had a 3.9 (with rounding and only academic classes, so that's what they counted). It looks like I'll have a 3.75 this semester, which I would think would normally be fine, (All As and 1 B), but the B is in Calculus, and since I'm applying to Engineering, this might be problematic.

Is it likely I will get in? I can also switch the application to the LSA school, which I am confident I could get into, but I don't want to switch it unless I won't get into Engineering. Any advice or information would be appreciated.

If ur applying for mechanical engineering then a B might be problematic, howz ur grade in physics or chem. Those wil really help. I can't really tell u if ur in or not, I applied for RD too, still waiting for a reply.

Good luck

A in AP Chemistry, and I had regular (non-AP) Physics (because at the time, I didn't have calculus, which is required for it), which I also had an A in.

I've had an A in everything except for Analysis (that's like pre-calc+trig), and Calculus, and had/have a B in each.

As for mechanical engineering, I'm applying for their engineering school. I haven't picked a major yet. From what I hear there are good jobs in Chemical engineering so that would be something I'd look at, but that's not been determined yet. This is for undergrad, in case you were thinking something else. (Those GPAs are High School GPAs)

Sorry to bump this up, but I am hoping for some more answers here.

not a problem

university of michigan is not that selective...besides a B is not bad at all.

lol UMich is a very selective university for out of state students. It's much easier for in-staters, but is very difficult for OOS.

Whoah, you got deferred with a 3.9?? Their engineering school must be very competitive. I can't imagine you not getting into LSA. That situation sucks because you can't apply to both schools. I'd say keep your app for engineering if thats what you really want to do. Is your math SAT and SATII score high?-- that might counteract your B in calc.

SAT total was 1840 (which I assume won't be looked at). My ACT total was 29 with 33 in Math, and 26 in Science. I had 34 on a different ACT in Math, but the total on that ACT was only 28. No SATII.

I am in-State (in fact, in Ann Arbor), which is probably why I wasn't denied in the first place. My GPA was really what I had going for me.

sorry I missed that you were in state. Well that increases your chances greatly. Now, I can't speak for whether or not that B will hurt you, but good luck. I hope to attend UMich someday as well, so good luck!

So any other responses?

Sorry, I can't find an edit button.

I am also thinking of switching it to LSA. I had a test in Calc today and was looking to see if I could raise my grade in it some, but no luck there. I can still switch and all after being deferred, and they won't look negatively at some of the other issues I have (I applied to one and switched, and I have no English class)?

All they are really trying to verify is that you don't have "senioritis" and are planning to slack off after being accepted prior to this semester's grades coming out. A 3.75 GPA is quite acceptable (especially since we are only talking about one "B" here).

Just send in your report card, and indicate your regret at not having been able to get a 4.0 GPA this semester. I'm sure you will be accepted if you do.

P.S. A 3.75 GPA this semester indicates that you are only taking 4 courses--so they might be curious what you are doing with your extra time. Hopefully, you are either taking college courses already also--or you are using this time to do other valuable work such as academic competitions, some sports endeavor, or volunteer work on behalf of the community or the school. -----You will be asked to expand upon this, I'm guessing. Also, they will want to see your college grades if that is how you are using the time.

I am only taking 4 academic classes this semester, I take 5 again next semester. I don't have an English or History class, and next semester I have a History (but still no English) class. Part of this is because I have Chemistry Lab though in addition to Chemistry, so I have a full 6 hour schedule (and next semester 7 hours). The 3.75 is the GPA that they'd look at.

I am working, though I was also working last year. I average about 24hrs/week. I don't know if that counts, but if that other stuff counts, I hope this does too.
