University of Michigan Ann-Arbor-Chance Me!

Hello! I would like to see what your opinions are for my chances of getting into the University of Michigan! I am currently a Computer Science and Engineer at the University of Iowa. After my freshman year I am projected to have a 3.27 or 3.31 gpa, depending on how did on one of my finals, I do know my gpa is not great. My grades are a mixture of A’s and B’s, I will list my grade’s below. Based off them what do you think would be my chance of getting into University of Michigan college of engineering for computer science as UM is my dream school and I did apply to them coming out of high school but sadly did not get in.

First Semester: Calculus 1: A-,Rhetoric: A-,Chemistry: C,Intro to Computing(C++): A
Second Semester: Calculus 2: A-, Business Writing: A, CS1(Python): B-, Physics: B- or B(depends on final)

I have one more semester to bring my gpa up and I believe that I can get it up to a 3.43 after my third semester. As well as I am a part of the cs club here at the university.

As well as I have an internship as a software developer in the bay area for the summer, not sure if it will help my application or not.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Are you a Michigan resident ?

Since you are in-state for Iowa & in a very sought after major & have secured a great internship, stay at Iowa. Plus, you are not a strong candidate for transfer admission into a competitive major based on your college GPA.

The software developer internship will likely help, but academically, your profile is not compelling for transfer admission into Michigan. I agree with @Publisher that you seem to be doing well enough at Iowa, and may not need Michigan (if immediate career placement is your measure of value or your end-goal from a college education).

So you are qualified for transfer into engineering cs unless I am missing something here but you have to realize that many credits might not transfer since Michigan is extremely picky on what they will accept. You might have to retake classes. I also disagree about your GPA. Michigan’s average GPA for engineering is something like 3.3 from Freshman to Senior year. This is tough stuff, no question. Most employers want something over 3.0. Yes some will want higher also.

But it seems like your doing well and have a great internship. I agree with staying put. Maybe come to Michigan for a MS degree or something later on.

No I’m actually a resident of iowa

Thank you for the advice! appreciate it
