^^I am guessing that was said because most instate kids and their school guidance offices have a pretty good idea of what is needed by their students to get accepted instate and if kids are borderline they make different choices for application or if they want a big school they apply to UofM and MSU. It is pretty predictive for instate students unlike out of state students. For my kids’ high school there are almost never any surprises when all is said and done in May.
Only ~10000 (~10%) in state students would apply to UM each year and they are mostly the top students.
