Hello! I am a junior from an in-state public high school and I feel as though my chances of getting into UMich are low (at least according to prepscholar). I REALLY want to apply for their School of Nursing. I have an unweighted GPA of 3.85 and an SAT score of 1350. To be very honest, I did not study for that test at all and only have begun studying diligently for the past couple of weeks (and will) for a retake in August. I can expect my score to be 1400+ but my biggest concern is my AP exam scores. I’ve only taken two exams(lang and apush) and for both, I got a 3. Definitely not planning on sending them to the school (or any other school). For extracurriculars, I’m president of my school’s band, my second year of being captain for women’s golf, captain of the marching band’s color guard, and have participated in several school clubs (red cross since freshman year, animal advocates, etc.). I have approximately 100 hours of volunteering done, mostly from teaching in summer English programs. So far I’ve taken five AP courses, and this year I will be taking three AP courses (lit, calc, spanish 5) and will be taking my second year of IB biology. I’m planning on taking AP exams for lit, calc, psych (there are only regular psych classes offered in our school), and the IB exam for bio. Took a couple subject tests where one I did crazy bad and the other the score never came due to a fire alarm going off AFTER I took the test. How many do I need (with good scores) to send? I think I’m okay with recommendation letters but I think I will struggle with my essays because I’m terrible with reading and writing. Reading and writing are also the reason why my SAT score wasn’t high enough. However, I do have many people who can look over my essays. Will UMich care if I haven’t done much medical related stuff? Thank you so much, sorry if the tone of this sounds direct, just panicking a bit…
Mich is tough for anyone. But I don’t think your that far from off an instate admission at all. Write good essays and get that 1400. You’ll be competitive. Not sure about the nursing school though. Some specific schools can be much tougher. Nursing is tough in our area at the two flagships in the region.
Your stats are fine just make sure your essays are the best part of your application. Also, I would send your AP Scores even if you got a 3 to show them you at least made an effort… (I sent my 3s in)
Michigan’s nursing school average sat tends to be slightly lower than the rest of the university, so a 1350 is definitely not bad. I have seen people get admitted to nursing with scores even lower than that.
For in state, if you pull up that SAT i think it’s a no brainer for them! As is, i still like you odds.
UMich doesn’t really care about the AP scores at all. Don’t worry.
