University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

I’m a prospective freshman at UMich, which is my top choice; chance me!

I am OOS (Cleveland)

Stats:
ACT: 32 (34 Eng, 33 Reading, 32 Science, 30 Math)
GPA (UW): 3.98 with Michigan’s recalculation (1 B+ in a semester class through all of high school)
GPA (W): 4.472
Class Rank: 2/331 (probably my biggest strength)

Prospective Major: Neuroscience w/ minor in Spanish (College of LSA)

APs: APush, AP Lang, AP Gov, AP Chem, AP Bio (School only offers 9 total, so I take a majority CCP (dual-enrollment) and have taken ten honors classes)

Extracurriculars: Football, Track, VP of NHS, Student Council, Leo’s Club, volunteering at hospital, volunteering at food bank usually one every week, altar serving every week, etc

Race: Mixed African-American/White

Applied to: UMich, OSU, Emory, Vanderbilt, Case Western, Tulane, UNC Chapel Hill, Fordham, UDayton, Xavier, Penn State

Accepted so far: OSU, Penn State, Xavier (20k scholarship), UDayton (25k scholarship)

Naviance: No one from my school goes; but, I know two people who got in/attended from the local area with 31ACT, but were all top ten in their class.

did anyone else not get their um id emailed to them yet even though they applied months ago? they sent me a confirmation email saying my application is done, but no um id so i can’t check my status

@MichiganGoBlue23 Did you check your spam folder? That’s where mine was.

Help!!
Do I need UM Id to submit my sat score?

No, you send your SAT scores via the College Board website.

it wasn’t there either

@MichiganGoBlue23 The same thing happened to my friend. She just called the admissions office, gave her information, and then they emailed her a link to open her portal.

has it been announced when EA results are out?

@rohuncho the betting crowd is saying December 19th. I would think 19-21 is reasonable. But you will know by the 24 th for sure. Get ready to get deferred. It’s the new cool thing to do. Good luck.

@SingingBusDriver You’re hilarious! I hope you are indeed a Michigan admissions insider so that you can answer my anonymous questions. Thank you for helping everyone each year and answering their questions and just being human in this process which many students view as cold and unfeeling. We tend to be self-centered and not think about “the other end”. You must laugh at the repetition of questions answered explicitly by the University and the doubt students have in the answers given simply because of the stress and anxiety the whole process causes for both admissions officers and prospective students. I hope I can join The University of Michigan as a member of the class of 2023, but when the University attracts so many qualified and talented students it just isn’t possible to accept all of them. Is it impossible for me to get in with a 1210 SAT? No, I’m not perfect, but then again who is? Nevertheless I’m passionate about learning and 100% certain that UM is the school for me. I have taken so many credits my schedule is ridiculous annually. I feel that any class period spent in study hall is a wasted opportunity to learn and develop one’s interests, and as such I feel that my transcript reflects my dedication to intellectual development despite my one-day SAT score. Besides, I spend any lab periods volunteering as a tutor and an office aid. This year I have a lunch, so I also volunteer then. Junior year I took two back to back double periods of lab science and therefore had no time for lunch, as I was not willing to give up the opportunity to take an art during my lunch period despite this fact. Any tips as we go through this process? Are LOCI recommended or do they just annoy the adcom? Clearly, UM is my first choice. I took the most rigorous courses at my school and earned a 4.5 cumulative weighted GPA, 3.9 unweighted. Also, is being first generation, middle eastern, and low income considered in admissions decisions? Thank you for your consideration and time.

Also, I am out of state from Ohio. Are there any scholarships for being the resident of an adjacent state at UMich? I know many other universities offer such scholarships, but I couldn’t find any of these types of scholarship offers from UMich online.

Oh wise community…So it sounds like all get deferred. If you are lucky enough to get admitted, EA, OOS, specifically for Engineering, what do you need? If anyone can suggest? My boy stats, 33 Composite ACT, 35 math, 34 Science, 32 Reading, 30 English. School does not rank. His UW GPA 3.87, 8 Ap’s, Lots of sports and music, Captain of Varsity baseball team as a Junior, Varsity soccer, All County saxophone, Bunch of honor societies for academics and music, etc etc. Parents both college educated and basic Americans. My son loves the school and would go in a heart beat but in todays times, i think the deck is stacked againt him.

Alright folks, the countdown is goin’! God, I’m so ready to hear back! :^)
Roughly 10 days left to wait, assuming the 19th is indeed the release date! I just keep reminding myself hey, what’s two weeks on three months, yknow?

Also, for the folks asking to be chanced about deferment, I genuinely don’t think anyone on this thread can give you an answer. They tend to defer even top students for being out of state, as they don’t want to fill up slots in their class with people who won’t go. If someone with top stats gets into Harvard and Umich, they’d probably go to Harvard, yknow? And that’s their worry.

I’m just hoping that as an in-stater they’ll give me a situated answer come the 19th. I’d almost rather be denied outright than deferred- at least then I know what I’m doing! That said, I’d really rather an acceptance, Michigan, hehe.

Good luck folks! Hopefully we hear back soon and we get good news for the Holidays <3

@kyledad for OOS it’s a toss up and a 34 to me is the sweet spot for OOS at most schools. But his numbers are definitely there. Engineering GPA avg the last few years has been 3.92 the last few years so he’s right there. His math /science scores are solid. What is his highest math class? Just remember… Getting deferred builds character… Lol.

Don’t they email you your decision?? Like it’s not on a portal or anything right?? I thought I read that on their website.

Knowsstuff, where did you find the information that most early action students get deferred? Do you have a percentage?

Deferred to when?
