wait im confused when are decisions supposed to come out?
@Busybee01 - disappointing that your son’s Guidance counselor was less than supportive of your student’s stated desire to even attempt to apply to Michigan; but sounds like he’s got a bright future no matter where he landed and wound up in an amazing pace that will be a great fit for him. Congratulations to him (and you!)
@joycewriter - I believe your note was intended for @Busybee01 who’s son was the one who was accepted into JH.
I’m just a parent navigating this process for the first time who’s awaiting word on our OOS daughter’s EA decisions, with Michigan being her top choice (like so many others here).
Best of luck to everyone on your and/or your loved one’s respective college journey!
@projectmgr - Exciting times, thank you! I became addicted to this forum, I feel it’s been here for me, as this is my oldest kid, so probably more emotional!
@cnew211 - I’m sorry, you are correct, it depends on the school, but U of M knows all about local high schools. Each school is also aware of their students’ chances. In our HS students have many opportunities, so with regard to our school, if you only took 7 APs you will be advised not to waste your time. They cannot force anyone, but I am sure overall it has some effect on the number of applicants.
@Umich2023 Fill out the application for instate status like right now. The same thing happened to me and, luckily, I caught it early and was able to apply for instate status. My application was processed and confirmed in about a week.
EDIT: I just reread your post and it seems like you’ve already applied for instate status, my bad. They might assume that you’re instate if your address and high school are in Michigan in addition to the fact that you have a pending instate application, I am really not sure though.
Welp, nothing today I guess!
@assemblingphilosophies I messaged the dude on live chat and he gave me an answer that’s probably not true. I’ll quote him below. He did say that the AO would definitely know about my residency status but if I wanted I could send an email about it to her should I be deferred to show continued interest.
Live chat person said:
I’m sure that you’re Admissions Counselor is well aware of your residential status but it you’d like to send that person an email just so that are fully aware that you are awaiting a change to your status you may do so. Do you know who your Admissions Counselor is?
EDIT: They told me it’s gonna take 8-12 weeks on the phone.
I’ve been religiously following this thread for a while but semi terrified for decisions to come out. I’m OOS legacy whose other parent is a former employee and look great on paper but if they’re really just deferring alumni kids then it’s over for me :-/ also worried about the fact that I look great on paper with the whole “umich is just a back-up since they’re probably gonna attend an ivy” conversation cuz i’m definitely only applying to one ivy.
so this is a fun waiting period! good luck my dudes.
So are Michigan Decisions coming out soon or do we have to wait until christmas eve?
Can UMich please come out? It’s my last early school, and I need the closure
You’re so right. The stress of everyone around me getting their decisions already and even committing to schools by mid December is too much.
Do you mean the people around you hearing from UM or other colleges? @ezga3969
Less than a week!! :^) It sucks that this is the last of the early decisions, but we ARE almost there!!!
I wish that this was my last EA decision! I hear back from some schools in late jan-early feb
@highschooler39, decisions are expected Wednesday at 3:00pm, per some supposed insiders. Some folks last year said they could access their decisions on the portal around 3:00pm but didn’t get the email until early Thursday morning. @retrovirus I would think your legacy status will help
Does anyone know if I’ll still be able to see my decision even if I can’t access my portal? I wasn’t aware there was one cause I guess my email with my ID went to spam. I reaaally don’t wanna wait until letters come in the mail
@kjdoc19 I’m not sure. My friend had the same problem because he didn’t realize we needed the portal to get to the decision. You aren’t alone!
@kjdoc19 it was my understanding that the decision will come in an email!
Chances on two students from the same small public school both getting accepted?
Partly depends on in-state versus OOS, but if both students have excellent stats and applications, then I don’t see a reason why UMich wouldn’t accept both students.
