University of Michigan Cross Campus Transfer LSA to CoE

Hi! I am a current freshman in LSA. Right now I am considering transferring to CoE because I feel that I have more interest in engineering than the majors in LSA.

I understand that when transferring to CoE, I have to apply to a specific department. I have the following questions and hope you guys can help me out here:

  1. How is the process and how rare/frequent for LSA--> CoE transfer? I know for Fall 2017, I have to apply by Feb 1st, 2017. For Winter 2017, it'll be Oct. 1st 2017. But, since I have to apply in February for fall term, I will definitely not have grades for all the pre reqs (I'll be taking EECS, Orgo 1, and Physics winter semester; I already have Calc 2 and English 125). So, how will that process work? Will the college just assume from your S1 grade how well you'll fare in Engineering?
  2. How should I go about exploring the engineering majors? The majors I have in mind currently are: EE, Mechanical, Biomed, and civil (maybe chemical). All these majors are purely based on my interests and online researching and not an in-depth knowledge stemming from shadowing or anything like that. So, how should I explore the majors, and when should I start meeting up with Newnan and/or EAC advisors? What are the questions and concerns I should bring forth? I have a list but hoping to have suggestions. Will EAC advisors be readily available for non-engineering students? Is there a different process for me to schedule appointment since I am non-engineering?
  3. I know that engineering students declare by their sophomore year, and even then many engineers who have been in CoE since freshman year say that they or people they know have switched departments/majors. How easy or feasible is this for LSA transfers? Would this switching around lead to not being able to graduate in 4 years without summer classes?

I know this is a lot of questions and can be easily answered through advisors and etc., but I was hoping the college confidential community can give me more insight, especially from current coe or past cross campus transfers.
Also, if you are a current engineer in EE, Mechanical, civil, chem, or biomed, please feel free to share your experiences and thoughts! I would love to hear from your insights!

Thank you very much!
