Hi! I’m a junior and already got myself worked up on whether or not I can get into Michigan. It is my dream school and there’s no doubt that if I got in that I would go!
Going to apply to LSA
In state
ACT: 29 (32 E/R 26 M 25 S 10 W) I am going to take it again to get at least a 30 though.
GPA: 3.8-3.81 based on how Michigan calculates GPA. Had okay freshman year but have had strong upward trend since then.
Classes: 3 years of honors english, AP GOPO, AP Chemistry. Next year taking AP Lit, AP Psych, AP Bio, AP Calc AB. I will also have had 5 years of Spanish by the time I graduate (taking spanish V next year). Contemplating taking AP Stats next year as well, not sure yet. Band two years.
EC’s: helped start up school safety committe and was member for two years, marching band two years, musical theater 2 years, play two years, book club one year, jazz band one year. (Going to do play and musical next year as well)
Volunteering: My school has a tutoring program for struggling students and I have been tutoring for two years now. Over 20 hours last year and probably another 20 this year. Going to tutor again next year. I also volunteered at my church’s vacation bible school one summer and probably got another 20 hours doing that, planning on doing it again this summer.
Hook: ridiculously huge legacy (it’s odd for someone in my whole, giant family to have not gone to Michigan on my mom’s side, I think a total of 10 relatives including mom and sister) I also have spent a lot of time in the U of m health system, born with heart and hearing defects, had open heart surgery at four months old, numerous other surgeries in childhood, most at Michigan hospital. I also am doing a trip to Europe this summer sponsored by my schools english/history department, I don’t know if that looks good on an application but I’m putting that out there.
Don’t know exact school ranking, but at least top 20% of class. My school is well known for by Michigan reps for having really smart students. Class has approx 550 students.

Female
Upper middle class
I have shown interest in Michigan, I have requested info, liked them on facebook, did campus tour last month (when it was -20 degrees that was fun haha).
I think that’s all the stats I can think of right now!
Oh and I’m probably NHS as well
You have pretty good stats. If you can get at least 32 on the ACT, that would be great.
Right now, you look pretty good for getting into Michigan. Your ACT is a bit low, but the large legacy really helps to make up for that. If you really want to solidify your chances, go get that score above 30. I have a score above 30, but applied with a 28 and was accepted, most probably because I conducted research there and and am in state. You are as well, so I have no doubt of you making it. Please note, however, that they are decreasing their class size each year. I believe my counselor received an email from the adcomm’s stating that they decreased their class size by 500. But no worries, you will make it! Good luck to you!
Btw, I’m guessing you go to an AA school lol
@jpdaman11 I don’t think AAPS has Spanish V.
@catmss24 Try to bring up your GPA a little bit which is very important for UMich. Currently, it is slightly below admission average. While for ACT, aim for 30+. You are almost there.
@jpdaman11 I go to brighton actually haha
