University of Michigan Chances???????

I am a Junior in MI. I plan to apply to LSA. Could anyone please chance me? I will chance back always :) (or try to lol)

Objective:
[] SAT I (breakdown): I will not be taking the SAT, the guessing penalty makes me antsy.
[] ACT: 32 (35/29/33/29) I am not that happy with my ACT score, and I will be retaking it, to try to get a 34.
[] SAT II: I am unsure if I will take any.
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.84. This is very shoddy I know, and I am not that pleased with it. The only pro is that it has been an increasing trend.
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): No ranking done at school
[] AP (place score in parenthesis):Planning on taking a total of 10-11 APs
AP World History-4
AP Physics B-Taking This Year, Suspecting a 4 or a 5
AP United States History-Taking This Year, Suspecting a 5

AP Computer Science
AP Calculus BC (?)
[] Awards:
Extracurriculars (Up to Now):
[] Tutoring and Mentoring Programs
[] Tennis & Track
[] Various Volunteer/Community service:
Local Library
Local Hospital
Various School Volunteering Organizations
[] Summer Activities:
Freshman Summer-Took a biology course online and volunteered at Sparrow Hospital via their summer program.
Sophomore Summer-Took a biotechnology course at MSU. Volunteered at my public library.
Junior Year-Plans to volunteer at Sparrow and the library. Also will be in my lab at MSU carrying out my scientific experiment. Will definitely be working on college applications and essays. I will also be working on writing up my scientific paper.
Other:
[] Essays: I am planning on spending a good chunk of the summer on these in order to make them be fantastic.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I expect these to be very well written. My chemistry teacher, my computational physics teacher, and my literature teacher know me very well and know a lot about me past what they would about a typical student. I have had all of these teachers for two years in a row also so they should know me very well and be able to write great letters of recommendation for me. I may also ask my AP United States History teacher for one as him and I get along very well. A lot of people say I get along very well with everyone however, so I am not sure.
[] Counselor Rec: I expect this letter to be great as well. I talk to my counselor a lot and she knows me quite well, and my anxiety on applying for colleges.
[] Additional Rec:I am set on asking my MSU mentor for a letter. For the last three months and for the next year he will get to know me very well and I believe he is impressed so far by my work and dedication. I am also thinking about asking my library or Sparrow volunteer coordinator.
[li] Interview: I believe U of M does not interview.
[/li]
Details for Applications:
[] State: Michigan, so I am instate.
[] School Type: Public, I know it is #7 in the state.
[] Ethnicity:Asian/Indian-I have heard this will hurt me.
[] Gender:Male
[] Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate):No idea, I have 2 younger sisters, pretty sure average income
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):First generation college student in immediate family.

Strengths: Extracirriculars and Letters of Recommendation
Weaknesses: GPA

The fact that you’re in state with those ECs and recommendation letters I can’t see you not getting in. The UMich average GPA is 3.8 so I don’t see a 3.7 being a true weakness.

Thanks for the input. I’m just super paranoid cause of my GPA. I hope they see that with all of the stuff I do and the classes I take that a slightly lower GPA can be overlooked. Do you have any idea how I would do if I applied Early Action?

You shouldn’t worry about Michigan. As a highly qualified in-state candidate, Michigan is a match for you. The GPA requirements are just higher because of out-of-state applicants.

I’m really sorry if it sounds like I am trying to boast (I read my post and it kinda came off like that to me just now). I am just extremely worried (I worry a lot), and thank you so much for your input.

Your GPA is below the average but I dont see that as a problem since your ACT is around the top 25% percentile. Also your ECs and you being in-state outweigh the small difference in the GPA.
