University of Michigan Essays

Let me start off by saying that I really DO NOT like the UMich essays. None of them really allow you to show off your creative side like my common app essay will.

Anyway there are two essays that I have to write that seem identical to me. Here they are:

Part 2 Essay
College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) What led you to
choose the area(s) of academic interest that you have listed in your
application to the University of Michigan? If you are undecided, what
areas are you most interested in, and why? [approx 250 words]

Preferred Admission s Essay
Based on your accomplishments, experiences,
and goals, tell us why you want
to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration
(BBA) degree at the Ross
School of Business and how all that you
describe will contribute to your success
in the program. [approx 500 words]

Is it just me or is the word count the only thing that is different between these two essay topics? They both ask for why I want to pursue my interest in business and the second one asks for a little more in terms of the future; essentially they are both asking for the same thing here.
I do not want to write identical essays for both topics or is that what I am suppose to do.

Any help would be appreciated and if there are some sample essays out there for public view that would be really cool. :)

okay well they are not the same, just speak about how you like business in the 250 word one, and then talk about how much it would mean to have a bba from michigan in the 500 word on. they are as similar or different as you want them to be

ugh…I’m applying to UMich and I don’t like their essays at all either. That being said, being very creative with the prompts is still possible. You could use the 500 word essay to express your knowledge of the program and its strong fit for you, while answering the 250 word essay to elaborate on why you love your subject area.

yea im applying to and i mean comee onn. a setback?
wth! lol :P

i agree, very much so.

500 words on why it’s good for you? you need to be plato to write that.
i’m not, so i’m failing miserably…
