University of Michigan Waitlist 2024

Did y’all who just got off the waitlist apply RD or EA?

I got off the waitlist about an hour ago!! I am shocked and thrilled as Michigan is one of my top two choices. For reference, I submitted a LOCI two days ago, and was accepted into LSA. I am also OOS (California)

Stats:
ACT: 31 (superscore 32)
GPA: 3.94 W 3.75 UW
5 AP’s total
Incredible Essays
Many extracurriculars

When did they update the portal?

Did anyone get in off of waitlist in the nursing school?

In my opinion it is no brainer. My DC got accepted to CMU for engineering, but not allowed to choose Electrical or CE (did not plan anyway since wants BME). Price is the same, but Carnegie CS or CE is definitely the winner. In addition, everyone knows Carnegie. Unless you are in-state for UMich, I would choose CMU.

Nope. No any letters.

Congrats everyone. Told ya it was going to be a different year. Go Blue!

Got accepted off of the waitlist @8pm today! (4/23)… OOS female for the college of engineering! Majoring in biomedical engineering. Was NOT expecting to hear back until June, and was definitely not expecting to be offered a spot. I already even deposited at Northeastern and assumed I was going to end up there. Crazy stuff but congrats to everyone else who got in! Not sure where I’m going to end up.

Stats:
35 ACT
GPA- 4.1 weighted, around 3.7 unweighted maybe?
6 APs, a score of 4 on US History last year, BC calc and bio senior year
Essays were not great at all
2 sports for 4 years, president of two clubs, extensive tutoring (but paid), volunteer work through little league but not much

**also was meaning to send a LOCI but heard back before I finished it… not sure if that was advantageous or not

S20 Got accepted from the waitlist! Deferred from EA. Into LSA.
He is in shock, so excited! Didn’t expect to hear anything, especially so soon. He didn’t send a LOCI.

By some miracle I made it off the waitlist with my below average stats!
3.83UW/ 4.6W GPA
1370 SAT
7 APs
Unique Essays
Extensive and Meaningful Extracurriculars
Legacy
No LOCI
Female OOS from Maryland
I certainly wasn’t expecting it be admitted and am now heartbroken that I got into my dream school but can’t afford it.
Congrats to everyone else who got in, and to those who haven’t heard — don’t give up hope!

did anyone who’s intl get off? congrats to everyone who got accepted btw

My son’s stats for those who want to know.
OOS Texas
1410 SAT
32 ACT (superscore)
SAT Math2 780
SAT Physics 730
SAT World History 780
14 AP Classes (7 senior year, so 7 already taken–all passed with 4/5)
Rank 26/702 (highly competitive high school)
GPA 4.2/4.0
His essays were pretty good (but what do I know?)
He is on robotics team that made it to Worlds past 2 years plus many other EC and volunteer hours, but not particularly leadership positions (though some)
He applied Early Decision/Action, Deferred in December (submitted a LOCI), Waitlisted in March
His standardized test scores were definitely his weakness. His grades/GPA/class rank all great, especially from his highly competitive school, but I believe that is what kept him from being accepted earlier.
My husband went to UofM, so he does have alumni ties and strong connection to school.

Although, I, myself, am a Longhorn and would love to have him in Austin (a mere 3 hour drive away) and he LOVES Austin and UT, he did not get his 1st choice major, so it seems like a no-brainer to choose Michigan. He has been indoctrinated into both schools his whole life. Michigan is a more highly ranked engineering school. If UT had offered him his 1st choice major, I think it would be a MUCH tougher call, but since they didn’t, I think Michigan is the best school for him. I am thrilled for him. He has worked his tail off for the past 4 years.

And no one has heard of Michigan? Wear some Michigan paraphernalia anywhere and someone will always yell “Go Blue.” Everywhere. Lots of UMich alums here in Silicon Valley.

And if you want to switch majors, add a major or couple minors like Ross Business, or change schools, Michigan is more highly ranked in nearly every subject.

Then there’s the big time athletics at UMich with A2 being always voted the top or one of the top college towns.

Congratulations! Did your admission letter state anything about “Computer engineering”? My DS is in the same situation, but his letter said only “College of Engineering” (no mention of major, even though he applied to CE/CS Major)

Area(s) of Interest: Computer Engineering, Computer Science

i somehow got in with very below average stats! i am OOS
SAT: 1330
ACT:27
gpa (w): 4.5
pretty good essays
40 college credit plus hours
President of DECA chapter
Varsity Tennis Captain
Fulltime job
Class Executive
nhs

okay so i really need advice lol
i got into ohio state and their business school. i also was accepted into business scholars and live in ohio. i was planning on going there because i honestly did not think that i was going to get accepted at umich (my dream school). however at u mich they told me that they weren’t looking at my ross app since i was waitlisted, and i can apply in the spring. i already paid my enrollment deposit and housing deposit at ohio state but i am really considering umich, any advice?

^^^^. If Ross is not looking at you now it’s really hard to get in next year. Like they accept 110 students to transfer. Even getting the business minor is tough. But you don’t need Ross to go into business. But if you have a direct entry into a business school and that is what you want to do then your all set. Also consider the finances and what your family can afford.

Not sure if your talking about CMU or Michigan about the major. At Michigan the reality is the name of what your accepted into really doesn’t make a difference. You don’t declare your major till the end of sophomore year. Lots of kids change their direction. Welcome to college…

But also doing a transfer into another field in or out of engineering is pretty easy at Michigan. Just meet the requirements, write an essay and choose what your interested in.

Correct, at UMich, the admission is into College of Engineering and you get to choose the major later, but you do apply by area of interest (in this case it was Comp Engg, Comp Sc).

CMU is by major, however, if you are accepted into ECE(of engineering) as first choice, they give you flexibility to choose any of the 5 engineering majors you want.

I guess if you want to study Computer related engineering courses, CMU has the edge. If you want flexibility of changing or adding another major later (especially business), UMich maybe better. There could be other factors as well. Cost wise for OOS, Umich is cheaper by about $12K. The strategy could be to first focus on your major in undergraduate, have couple of years industry experience and then do MBA (rather than trying to do CS/CE + business dual major). Thoughts?

So it depends on what you end goal is. But let’s clarify something. You can’t just transfer into Ross for business and even getting their business minor is limited like 100 kids /year. But there are many ways to do business at Michigan and you don’t need Ross for that. If Michigan is $12k cheaper I don’t see any advantage of CMU. None. Michigan ranks in the top 10 in just about every field. So what’s the advantage? Save the money.

There are so many things to do in campus that are business minded it will make your head spin. I wouldn’t double major either. Great way to lose out on other opportunities at school. You might not even need an MBA. But with that great CS degree at Michigan why not have somebody else pay for it? My son’s a junior in industrial engineering and the business opportunities at Michigan are endless and have nothing to do with Ross and what they do. He actually connected with a Ross student and has done some special things on campus. It’s what you make of your 4 years at Michigan. The opportunities are endless if you seek them out.
