@momofsenior1 yes, sounds like our school. Kids denied loved Michigan, visited etc and were denied. They went on to be admitted to Stanford, Northwestern, Rice and Cal Berkeley so they all ended fine, but most had Michigan over those schools. I’m sure your daughter ended at a great spot! Thanks for the info, he will put full effort in and also be sure to have back ups.
Just a sample of one (Class of 2022), but we have no alumni connections and demonstrated ZERO interest whatsoever, very high stats and my kid was admitted EA. Somehow, UMich knew something.
I think the essays are important to show that you want to be a Wolverine and I also think the yield from your HS is critical. Our local public HS sends between 7-10 kids almost every year. Locally, the UMich yield is high.
@sushiritto Congratulations to your son/daughter!! Very exciting. Yes, that’s definitely our problem! Although the very few they accepted did go. Michigan is just not a school in the past that many from from our current city/state applied to. Now it’s a little more popular and in recent years they received many applications from our school, but just taken a alumni kid every few years. He is definitely working hard on the essay. I’m actually from Michigan, so am super happy he loves it so much, but not confident based on where we live now.
