University of Minnesota Twin Cities chances

I’m a senior in high school who is going to apply to colleges in about a month. I’m taking the ACT on September 12th. My best score is a 25, but I’m hoping to get up to at least a 26 by the next test. My GPA is a 3.9 unweighted (4.13 weighted), and I’m taking very hard classes.

  • 2 honors classes per semester freshman year
  • 3 honors classes per semester sophomore year
  • 2 AP classes and 4 honors courses per semester junior year
  • 3 AP classes and 1 honors class per semester senior year

I’m also very involved and have founded a group at my school to volunteer at an elementary school.

Do I have a chance at getting into CBS at the UMN? How about CLA? My highest ACT is a 25, but I’ll most likely get that up by the time I apply.

Your ACT score is low for CBS and CLA. The ranges in the link above are the 25th to 75th percentiles of students who are freshman this year. Work hard on the ACT, but look at the other campuses too.

Definitely work on your ACT score. It’s a it the low. It also depends on your ECs. If they stand out and show interest in your intended major, then you’ll have a better shot.
Best of luck!

Identify alternate majors in colleges that aren’t as selective - for example, the age college has a great business major (great job opportunities ), etc.

Sign up for next month’s ACT, study, and you’ll be good

I know people from my school who have gotten 23s on the ACT with a lower gpa and easier classes and gotten into cla. I know my score is low, so hopefully I’ll get it up by this Saturday’s test
