Any experiences from the College of Life
Sciences? Pre-Vet track?
Recently I was at an accepted students reception and learned that UNH has a much higher than national average acceptance to Vet school. I want to say UNH has an 85% acceptance rate into vet school and the national average is 50%. Our research has given us a good impression of UNH COLSA. HTH
Yes, I gave read the same. We are goi g next week to the admitted students day for COLSA. Did you have a good visit of the department when you visited for admitted students? Hoping for a more in-depth visit next week.
My son was admitted back in December for fall 2018 going in as a biology major. Because we live in Southern California, we have not yet had a chance to even visit the campus but we are supposed to be visiting on April 19. Anyone else from Southern California and if so what are your thoughts about adjusting the frigid winter climate? We are technically in Los Angeles.
I will try to answer your question about climate. Compared to Los Angeles obviously it will be very different. I have never experience CA weather as a resident so I can’t really say how hard the adjustment will be. Winters in the northeast can be very different from year to year. This winter it has been long, cold, and snowy. Unfortunately spring is not in the air and it remains winter-like conditions. For example, today in Durham it will not get out of the 30s. But the good news is if it was a harsh winter this year, maybe next year will be more mild. More mild might mean an earlier spring, less snow totals and in general a shorter duration of cold winter weather. Fall is absolutely gorgeous with stunning foliage. Days can be very warm (summer like ) with cool or cold nights. Spring tends to be damp and is often short because sometimes we go from winter to summer with nothing in between. My guess is that will happen this year. One of the things to remember about New England weather is that it is always changing. There is a lot of variation where you can have a random warm day followed by a very cold day. Layers are key (think skiing) and a good pair of boots for wet and snow. Some people love it and will adjust quite easily. For others, not so much. HTH
