Some Concerns about NEU

Hello,
I was accepted into NEU so I'm really considering this school especially because of the diversity, Boston being a cool city, the Co-op program and the great public transportation.

However, I'm from California so I love hot weather and the beaches. I can deal with not going to beaches if there are other social events (daytime and nighttime) around Boston or on campus on the weekdays or weekends to replace this. The most important thing is knowing that there are social events to go to whether it be on or off campus and that these events are easy to get into and accessible.

Another concern I have is the weather because I did visit Boston in January this year but I only stayed for two days. It was cold but I didn't mind it since I surprisingly had the right clothes. However, I'm not sure if I could handle the cold for a longer period of time. I know in California, when its cold or rainy, there are less social things to do (except the movies which gets boring). So I just want to be assured that there are still fun social things to do at NEU even when its that cold. And also if anyone could tell me if the cold is really a big deal (especially if you're from a warmer area and moved to Boston) and what percentage of the year would you say that the temperature is above 60 F?

So basically if anyone can comment on the coldness and the fun social things or hang out places (indoor or outdoor) to do around NEU and/or Boston, that'd be wonderful.

Thanks so much for reading and responding! :)

EDIT: It's not so much beaches I'm concerned with but I just want to know about some of the social events and hang out places in Boston or on campus that you go to that you enjoy so that I can rest assured that I'll have fun things to do. Sorry for confusion.

Well, if beaches are a huge concern, Boston is on the East coast, and Cape Cod is only about a 2 hour drive away. I’m pretty sure you can find some beaches open that aren’t so far away during the Summer.

It’s a college in the biggest college city in the country. Yeah there is going to be stuff to do. You shouldn’t even being considering Northeastern if warm weather is that important to you. The average temperatures in dec. is 33, jan. and feb. its 29. Boston averages 12 inches of snow in Jan. and 11 in Feb. It also averages 3-4 inches of rain a month. June, July, August, and September the temperature would be 60 degrees and above. Those are also 2 1/2 to 3 months a year you would probably be home (unless you were doing a co-op in Boston.

This was a particularly cold and snowy winter. 2 years ago the most snow there was on the ground was at Halloween. So there is a lot of variation, and the weather can be kind of unpredictable. But Boston is geared up for that, socially. It sounds like California social life revolves around the nice weather. Here, not so much. Also, Boston has been called America’s biggest/greatest/somethingest college town. There are about 300,000 college students in the metro area, and there’s always something going on for everyone, from college parties to the Boston symphony.
