Does anyone have information about the OU acting program? I am interested in applying next year but haven't been able to find much about it on these forums... I'd love to hear from anyone who's attended or knows someone who has!!

i feel the same way. i love the ou campus and i have family there but the sight gives rather limited information as well.

sorry bad spelling the website is rather limited

I graduated from OU in '99. I earned an MT emphasis, although I did more straight shows than musicals. Unlike some other schools, the programs cross over very well, which is what I was looking for. The way the MT program worked when I was there was you major in either acting, voice or dance and then get the MT emphasis on top. The dance program is in the same building as well, so I was able to take dance every semester with no problem. I took ballet, tap, jazz and Graham modern.

OU is great at pulling in professionals to workshop new work. While I was there we had Mark Medhoff and a premiered a musical by Jim Wann who wrote some of the music for Pump Boys and Dinettes.

Acting classes were Stanislavsky based. For voice we had a Linklater based teacher and got good dialect training. The theatre history professor is very knowledgable and thorough. We used a variety of movement techniques. That is one area that I wish we had gotten more in depth.

They have a great facility, one large procenium space (1000-2000 seats?), a medium sized black box, and a smaller (40 seat) house that is entirely student run. A lot of seniors produce shows there for their capstone project.

In case you’re wondering, I am doing theatre in Chicago (still non-AEA), and I’m starting DePaul’s MFA acting program in the fall. A lot of my class is not doing theatre any more, but a good group of them are in NYC.

The program has had a lot of turn over since I was there, but they have a good backbone of people, so I think it has probably improved. I have talked to a lot of people about their college experiences since graduating 10 years ago, and by comparison I think I got a really great education there.
