For University of Oxford I understand that they require you to have 3 APs with a score of 5. My question/concern with this is that my majority of AP tests are being taken during my senior year, so I will have my scores after I have applied. Does this mean that I have no chance of being given an offer as I may not have the proper scores until after my application or how will it affect my chances?
For further details: I took 4 AP tests this year ( my junior year) and I don’t have my scores back yet but if I don’t have the proper amount of 5s will the admissions officers take into consideration the fact that I’m taking more AP tests my senior year?
UK colleges can give what is called a “conditional” offer - they detail exactly what you need to attain and if you attain it, then you’re accepted. For example, they could accept you based on the condition that you get a score of 5 on certain APs they list.
You’ll also want to make sure you understand all the other requirements for applying to school in the UK and be sure you meet the deadlines and scores requires.
They are quite accustomed to this, as almost all domestic applicants will be applying before they know their exam scores. If you get an offer, it would be conditional on your getting the required scores before the course starts.
What subject are you planning on applying for, and what APs are you taking/planning to take?
According to their “International qualifications” page, you could include any combination of three AP tests that are 5, or SAT subject tests that are at least 700. (As long as they are in three different subjects.)
Since it would be possible for you to take an SAT subject test or two this year (if you need to), I doubt they would let you wait until spring of senior year to fulfill their testing requirement through later APs. Though only someone at Oxford would know that for sure.
They do not want to see just any AP scores, but those that are relevant for the subject you‘re applying for. You will have to submit ALL scores, and if some of the relevant ones aren’t 5s, it would hurt your application.
I plan on studying physics and this year I took a chemistry AP, a physics AP, and then a government and an English AP. Next year I’ll have 2 physics APs, a calculus BC AP, and then some others such as another English etc. @Conformist1688
“I doubt they would let you wait until spring of senior year to fulfill their testing requirement through later APs”"
They do it all the time.
That all sounds good, bunnyrabbitlord. You’ll want to get 5s in the sciences and calc - don’t worry if you don’t do as well in the English and Gov, although you do need to submit the scores.
Note that you’ll need to register to take the PAT test: https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/applying-to-oxford/tests?wssl=1
Good luck!
Given that Oxford wouldn’t have any real marker on your math/physics ability other than the PAT when you go through the admissions process, it wouldn’t surprise me to see your offer conditional on 5s on both your Calc BC and Physics C APs during senior year. Given that lack of data, my suspicion is that you will need a strong performance on both the PAT and during interviews to receive an offer.
