Hello!
I am currently a sophomore graduating in 2017 in an American school in Thailand that ONLY offers AP classes. I want to pursue my undergraduate studies in the UK. Most top UK universities (like Oxford, Cambridge, LSE) require 5 AP scores at 5. Logically, since the deadline of applications is in January 2017, it means that I must satisfy the requirements at once during the AP exams in my junior year (May 2016).
My question is: is there anything to prove this wrong? Will AP scores earned in my senior year be counted towards admission in any way?
Thank you very much!
In the UK the system offers are conditional on getting the required grades (obviously the A level results are not out any earlier than APs), but getting 5 APs by Jr year shouldn’t be a huge deal if you are aimed at oxbridge et al. Check what your SAT and sat subject tests do also. The schools will lay the requirements out on their websites, otherwise you can enquire via admissions.
If you have at least 3 / 5 (Oxford / Cambridge) APs relevant to your subject by the end of your junior year it is possible to get an unconditional offer, but APs in your senior year are usually the conditions on which any offer you get is based. For example, my D1 applied with 5 APs at the end of her junior year and was scheduled to take 4 more her senior year. Her offer was conditional on her scores for 3 of the 4.
Be aware that the deadline for Oxford and Cambridge is actually 15 October 2016 for 2017 entry, and if the subject that you are applying to study has a required admissions test you have to register for that by then as well.
Thank you very much. Your advices are very much appreciated!
