Does anyone know specifically when and what time does (CAS) decisions come out? I heard it is between may 1st and may 4th?
I hope it is released this week coz I gotta pay deposits for other schools.
Well, based on what the Admissions staff stated in the transfer information session back in February, (which was that unlike previous years), the decisions would be released mid-May this year to coincide with other schools, it is highly unlikely that they would be released this week.
I didn’t receive an invitation for interview. Does it mean I have no chance? I am so worried…
They don’t do interviews for transfers unless you’re applying to their nursing school.
So is the consensus that we will not be hearing back this week? I thought someone had posted a link that said the expected date was somewhere in between May 1st through 4th. Also, are we supposed to be receiving an email from Penn that announces when decisions will be released?
Also do you think there is any chance that someone with a 3.75 GPA and under a 30 ACT score could get admitted?
@uniongirl123 Earlier in the chat, it was expressed that we would be receiving an email saying when our decisions will be posted. We’re “supposed” to get our decisions tomorrow since last year decisions were released on the first Tuesday of May. But we did not receive any email, and it seems they will release decisions mid-May to be in concordance with other colleges to avoid giving deposit extensions. Maybe they’ll release decisions tomorrow anyway without telling us but who knows, I would bet my money that they’ll be released sometime next week.
@uniongirl123 Although not likely, your likelihood of admittance would only be slightly better with a 4.0 GPA and 36 ACT score, there are plenty of students who are rejected with those stats. Maybe your essay or LOR strike a chord with the admissions committee, who knows, but you’ll have a decent chance as any. Good luck!
If you haven’t researched here already, the UPenn Common Data Set for 2017-2018 will answer a lot of questions on general stats of the accepted student body.

Although ACT & GPA stats aren’t specific to transfers, they’ll give you a sense of what Penn is looking for.
Their ACT composite score breakdown is that75% have a score of 35 or more, 25% have a score of 32 or less. 84.3% have a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
I’ve heard a couple of consistent things from admissions coaches:
-
Scores won’t get an applicant in, but they can get an applicant discarded. Scores are the first line of the weeding process, however mdeca12 makes a great point that another feature of an application can really jump out to win an admissions counselor over. That said, it’s likely going to be general student info that they know prior to the reading process (essays, LORs, etc.), - they have so many applications to go through.
-
Barring an exceptional accomplishment that compensates, scores should be in the 75% percentile. Again, to mdeca12’s point, there are a LOT of accomplished applicants with stellar scores - as college counselors say, don’t give them a reason to pass on your application. A GPA of 3.75 is in keeping with most of their accepted students, so that’s a good thing. Best of luck!
I can’t believe last year’s acceptance rate for male applicants is only 6.77%…
Yikes, reading comprehension fail. I assure you that it is not the case that 75% of students have a 35 or higher.
@betwixt It’s percentiles. It means that if you have a 35, you scored higher than 75% of admits.
@uniongirl123 Ha! Yes, @rob3223 is absolutely right - I didn’t word that correctly, I know that 75% of accepted applicants don’t have a 35 or better. That would be pretty daunting!! I meant that the top 25% have a score of 35 or higher. I did mean to say though, that what admissions and college advisors have said is that you really want to get your scores in the top 25% unless there is some significant circumstance or accomplishment that balances that out. Thanks @Rob3223 for straightening that out!
I haven’t read through all the latest posts, but I know people were still asking about when decisions will be released. UPenn just sent me an email this past Thursday informing me that they were missing my College Transcript. If they’re sending out missing application materials emails that late, I imagine it might be a while before decisions are actually released. I would think late May would make the most sense.
I doubt they would go from early May to late May.
Mid-May seems the most likely; I’d put my money on this coming week or at the latest the week after.
They should announce when they will release decisions by thursday.
@MBA12 what makes you say thursday?
what changed their decision date unlike the previous years?
do you think a later decision date implies that they had more applicants this year?
