@lazycat281 Definitely call them, they were really helpful today. They helped us find a mistake we made in one of the financial aid forms, and now, my package is within $200 of the NPC estimate!!
@connections You will not have to provide 2016 tax forms. Your financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year is based on your 2015 tax returns. Your 2016 tax returns will determine your financial aid for the 2018-2019 school year.
@cregan61899 I called them right away when I got my financial aid package but they just told me to wait a few days until they recheck my financial evaluation
@brantly, thanks for the correction about the tax returns used! That is a new change this year, and I somehow hadn’t known that.
@connections Yes, it is a new system. Financial aid offices will now look at tax returns from two years prior to the fall start date. The reason is that applicants can submit full financial information in the fall instead of waiting until tax returns are complete in the spring.
Just an update and possible helpful info for anyone in the future, but I contacted UPenn after being accepted to re-submit financial aid documents and for them to be evaluated again, as the original financial aid package wasn’t feasible whatsoever. They also offered to extend the confirmation/deposit deadline so I would have more time to consider the re-evaluted financial aid package.I was just contacted today and they increased the financial aid by 50%, so I highly recommend you guys contact them if you foresee difficulties meeting the expected family contribution.
