@accept2017 I didn’t get emails about FA. Did you submit the UPENN financial aid supplement as well?
@collegeready21 @accept2017 I also haven’t recieved an email/letter and I sent in CSS and did the online supplement, I’m fairly sure everything was completed.
@greenstudent @collegeready21 Online what? Did not submit anything besides CSS (and IDOC, but Penn was not listed)
@Chips99 ayyy you applied to Penn too
@accept2017 there is a financial aid supplement thing online. it is basically the same thing as IDOC, but you upload the W2s and tax return directly to Penn’s website.
Can someone clarify what this whole financial aid letter thing’s about? I’m thoroughly confused.
@messiisgod123 - Some applicants (or many, I don’t know) have NOT filed the REQUIRED (if asking for financial aid) “Penn Financial Aid Supplement,” including parents’ 2015 Federal Income Tax Return and Parents’ W-2 Form – which is in ADDITION to CSS/Profile and FAFSA. I don’t think UPenn requires IDOC.
The snail mail from UPenn dated 3/16/17 is simply a notification that these documents are missing. If you or anyone here have already filed the Penn Financial Aid Supplement and other documents mentioned, then you don’t have to worry about it. Just sit and wait until the official announcement.
@hopefulundertone thx:) we don’t have any tax return forms in my country, may be that’s why I did not receive any additional e-mails from Penn
Until we received the snail mail notification yesterday that these financial docs are missing, we didn’t know that there was a separate “Penn Financial Aid Supplement” to fill out on-line. We only submitted the CSS/Profile and FAFSA. Some colleges have their own financial aid filing requirement and UPenn isn’t the only one that we missed. What’s odd about UPenn is that it’s requesting for the missing docs at this late point when the decisions have most likely have been reached by now. And why use a snail mail as a form of communication rather than a speedier email?
@accept2017 Check the Financial Aid Checklist for international students. We don’t have to submit tax return forms or anything but the CSS Profile (option 1).
I’m an international student and from my extensive reseach around Feb 1st about financial aid, I remember that Penn only wanted CSS, did not ask for anything else. I’m worried they did ask the ones they were willing to accept, making me even more nervous
@MeHowPL it’s okay, we didn’t need to submit anything else:)
@pmegmxn I’ve seen that, but doubted my understanding of the requirements, thanks:)
This fin aid discussion is not for internationals…dont worry
I have been researching over Penn for some time now and have the following conclusions.
Penn financial supplement has very specific fields to fetch information they require. I ended up submitting both CSS and filing Penn Financial Supplement. I can’t say whether it’s a positive sign for domestic applicants but for internationals, they would most probably require the documents if CSS (a very long form) is confusing and they simply want additional forms to help them in drafting a financial aid package. Some here on thread said, why would an university draft a financial aid package for students who will be rejected, I may support this explanation with a pinch of salt. This maybe a positive factor but definitely not a clue on whether you’d be accepted or rejected. This year, so far I have heard from three universities. 2 reject, 1 waitlist. I do not expect any acceptance from any university, because as my father said, it’s the person and not an university that decides a student’s future.
When I was doing my interview for Penn, my interviewer said that he would let me know if I got in or not before the decisions are out because the interviewers find out like a week before we do. Is this an actual thing? Should I be expecting to hear back from him?
@hopefulundertone maybe you heard your interviewer wrong? I remember very distinctly that mine said she wanted me to let her know if I got in because the interviewers found out if we got in A WEEK AFTER we did.
Interviewers find out 1-2 days after Penn releases decisions. And they can only contact students who were admitted to say congratulations afterward (since they don’t know before.)
@Faultystart during our follow up email too, he said he’ll let me know when he finds out. maybe I’m just remembering incorrectly what he was referencing. thank you!
Do interviews actually influence your decision at all?
