University of Pittsburgh Housing

I am currently a senior at Syracuse (graduating in 2 weeks) and will be attending University of Pittsburgh in the fall to work on a Masters. I know the university is in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, but am wondering where exactly I should be looking for an apartment and what areas are safer than others and their proximity to campus - for example, South Oakland, North Oakland, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, East Liberty, Point Breeze, etc.

Try posting this on the University of Pittsburgh thread. I’m sure someone on that thread can give you first hand info.

Good luck in grad school.

squirrel hill.

South Oakland is a bit sketchy. Most Pitt grad students I knew lived in North Oakland (still city-like, though more upscale than South Oakland), Shadyside (more trees and families, though right on 5th Ave or Center, so convenient for most Pitt people), or Squirrel Hill (mostly family houses, some apartment buildings some houses for rent, nice area with some good restaurants and a lot quieter than Oakland).
