University of Richmond EA decisions

My son got the same email and I sent an email back saying the semester grades won’t be released until early Feb. and they said that they won’t send a decision until senior grades are submitted. Fairfax County, VA doesn’t finish until Jan. 25 and they will not send any grades until early Feb. No other early action schools require this but since this is the first year for ea they may not know what’s going on. I’m a little confused because my D2 was a Richmond scholar semifinalist 2 years ago before they ever saw a single senior grade.

@LMHLAW3 Requiring senior year mid-year grades for admissions decision is consistent with what they have done in previous years for Richmond Scholars applicants. Richmond Scholar semifinalists in previous years did not receive notification of their finalist status until after their midyear grades were received, since if you were a finalist, you received your offer of admission at that time. Richmond Semi-finalist statuses were announced as early as end of December, and becoming a semi-finalist didn’t guarantee admission, so it wouldn’t make sense for there to be a midyear grade requirement for them. I agree, it seems a little weird to do so for EA, but this is the first year they have EA, so they’re still working out the kinks.
For what its worth, I went to school in Fairfax County, VA. I received my Richmond Scholars Finalist notification (back in 2014) the day after my mid-year grades were received, which was about a week later than when many other people had heard.

I know that the EA is new so they are just trying to figure it out. Unfortunately we didn’t get notification about the grades until yesterday, 2 days before the deadline. I contacted our H.S. and they will not send grades out until early Feb. It was the same for my D. UR was very accommodating 2 years ago and they waited for the grades. I do know that my D was a finalist before any grades were seen. I think the thing that is throwing people off is the fact that most schools do not require mid year grades for EA just as ED doesn’t either. Of course I do agree that at some point the grades must be seen by admissions.

My understanding was that Richmond, unlike most EA/ED schools, requested first quarter or trimester grades.
We had the counselor send them a couple of months ago and haven’t heard anything so I am thinking that’s all they need?

Guineagirl96 I just looked back on old emails and you are correct about the finalist grades. My D’s grades were not sent from her HS until Feb. 18 and she became a finalist on the 22nd. However, the EA is different and hopefullyUR will make the necessary changes as they get used to this new option.

Would someone be willing to share the email address that the request for grades came from? My son had an email yesterday with a subject line of “greetings from university of Richmond” when he tried to open it on his phone the message disappeared? He has looked in old and deleted mail on both phone and desktop but no luck in finding it. We don’t want to miss out on something important. Thank you in advance.

@happyone200 - The email my D received came from “Office of Admissions” and the subject was “Your Richmond Application is Incomplete”. Hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone for insight about the grade requirements and how UR has handled that in the past. Wonder if they’ll send EA decisions on a rolling basis, depending on when the grades are received?

Emmycat— Thank you.

Hmmm, my D’s 1st semester isn’t over until the end of January, with grades sometime around Feb 1. She did not receive an email from Richmond saying her file was incomplete. Now I’m worried they haven’t evaluated her. She may have to give them a call…

I fear this may delay the release of EA too. Naturally, I’d rather have them get it right, but I know the kids are expecting the decisions to go out today or Monday. You just have to love this process!

Since FCPS won’t send grades until February, I was able to send my S’ most up to date weekly progress report to admissions and they put it into his file. So if you’re from FCPS you should be able to do the same.

EA Letters have officially left the building! Time to start stalking your mailbox! #richmond2022

Richmond just posted on their twitter account at 1pm that the EA letters just left the building and are on their way!!!

So exciting! Will you post it on the student’s account as well, or do you only send mail?

Yay! This is exciting.

Does UR post EA decisions online as well? Or just snail mail?

I believe it’s only the mail from what I’ve read elsewhere.

Hmm - I wonder what that means for those of us who got the incomplete application email? Hopefully, my D’s grades were sent by her counselor this morning, but I doubt that was quickly enough for UR to review them and mail out her decision today. Maybe they’ll continue to mail out decisions as the grades are received. Sure is fun to see the big envelopes on that twitter picture! Good luck to all!

@Emmycat. I know. We were notified a week earlier, but it does make you wonder if a decision to defer was already made by the time we were contacted. I believe that is likely the worst case scenario, as I don’t think they’d reach out if your child was going to be rejected. Hoping for big envelopes in all our mailboxes, bringing big smiles to our kids.

Just called the school asking if they could tell me if I got in or not and they declined my request hahahaha. I can’t wait! Does anybody know if the admissions deposit website trick works for EA as well??
