University of Richmond Robins School of Business VS Fordham University Gabelli School of Business

Hello! Our S has been accepted to both Gabelli and Robins Business Schools. He really likes both campuses, and feels each school would offer him great opportunities. His goal is to choose the school that would help him eventually gain a spot in a top graduate program for finance after undergrad. We are from NY, so there is a slight feeling that attending Richmond might give him the “quintessential” college experience of being away and experiencing life in a different region. Greek life or lack thereof is not a deal breaker for him. We would appreciate any insight regarding internship opportunities, study abroad opportunities and any other information from past/present students/parents, which could help us navigate towards a decision. (We will be attending Accepted Students Days for both schools next month.) Thank you in advance!

Is your son a transfer? UR does not direct admits to robins for freshman admissions- you have to apply at UR as a sophomore. I have no idea if that affects your decision.

UR has really good career services, especially from business majors, and has a really good track record with job placement. They also have a large study abroad program.

Thank you, @guineagirl96 for your reply and clarification. Just two days ago I was combing through all of my son’s paperwork from UR, and no where did I see Robins specifically stated, but H and S both pointed out that all of the emails that have followed have mentioned Robins - I am guessing that is just because he is listed as a finance major. (With Gabelli it states school acceptance.) That being said, I will adjust my OP since he will be a freshman.

I do recall our summer tour guide was in Robins and excited about his upcoming studies in Italy. My son is not thrilled to hear that he will have to go through another application process to gain admission, but such is life. We will be sure to pay close attention to what the process entails during our visit later this month.

Thank you for your response!

Getting into Robins isn’t an application per se, like it is at Wake Forest or UNC. Instead, if you hit the minimum GPA requirement and take the required intro classes, you are admitted to Robins. A lot less pressure at Richmond than others.
