Hi there everyone, I got accepted to both and am looking forward to attending this fall. I am going to major in Business Management and Administration, with probably a minor in psychology.
So for those criteria, which school would be better? Also, how’s the area surrounding each campuses like? (Richmond, VA vs Bronx, NY)?
Thanks!
UR is not in the city of Richmond, but right outside of it. The area outside of the small campus is mostly residential. Campus is self-contained so it is really not a city atmosphere. Its a very small, safe campus.
But if you want to do business, UR is a no brainer. It is ranked #16 in the list of top undergraduate business schools, while fordham is all the way down at around #40. UR B-school is top ranked and has excellent job and grad school placement. The psychology department is also very good and combinations of multiple majors and minors are common here, since the programs are very flexible.
Students here are also not divided- we have great diversity and are friends with students from all over.
UR is a favorite school of mine, but Fordham does have a lot to offer with its NYC locale. It’s right on the Metro North line, close to the bus/subway lines and even has a van to get into Manhattan easily and cheaply. That can be a big deal. It’s also a great school with strong alumni support. Not sure how much I’d put into the rankings as those I know who hire in NY do not–they tend to be more relationship oriented and name recognition. UR does not have a strong name recognition here, I can tell you, and FOrdham does.
If liking both school environments absolutely equally, and cost the same, I’d go with Fordham. And this is with UR being way up there on my list, as a personal top choice. If one environment is preferable in terms of personal match, I’d go with that.
@guineagirl96 Yup really divided on this. How about the internships in UR? I mean I love the environment and such, but I learn best through internships and am looking for the school with a lot of internships. What I heard from a senior in UR is that the only good concentrations to take for internships is Accounting, Finance and Economics, is this true?
@cptofthehouse Oh that’s great then. With Fordham though, how about internships? I also heard Fordham’s name is strong only in NY, but people said the education is easier compared to UR.
@polarium Im not in the business school, so unfortunately I don’t know specifics about the different majors and concentrations within the school. However, internships are readily available through UR.

This is one way students get internships.
@guineagirl96 hey thanks a lot, and I guess I’m applying to Richmond now
