•University of Rochester RD Class of 2020•

Rejected… So dissapoint! Thought Rochester can be a possible for me!

The admissions committee has completed its review of your application to the University of Rochester. I appreciate the time you spent on your application and the high level of interest you have shown in the University. However, I regret to inform you that I cannot invite you to attend as a first-year student.
If pursuing a Rochester degree remains your long-term goal, I urge you to talk with an admissions counselor about establishing a transfer plan. More than 100 students enroll as upperclassmen each year, after attending another accredited college or university and succeeding in a rigorous set of full-time courses.
To discuss this option further, feel free to contact Admissions at (585) 275-3221, toll free at (888) 822-2256, or at admit@admissions.rochester.edu.
Whether you consider this transfer route or pursue your degree elsewhere, I extend my best wishes to you in your future educational endeavors.

Here is letter I got.

Dear Kid

Thank you for your interest in attending the University of Rochester. The admissions committee completed its review of your credentials for admission. Because we received a record number of applications this year for a limited number of freshman spaces, I’m unable to offer you admission today, but I would like the opportunity to reconsider your application later.
Approximately 3% of our applicants are invited to join the alternate list. In April or May, space in the Class of 2020 might become available, leading to later offers of admission to students on this list. If you’re admitted from the alternate list, you’ll have the same status as any other admitted student; you’ll live in on-campus housing, attend Orientation in August, and retain your full eligibility for financial assistance.
If you remain interested in attending Rochester, log in to your MyROC account to complete the Alternate List Reply Form.
Completing this form sooner maximizes your chances for admission. In particular, those students interested in the option for first enrollment at Rochester in January 2017 should complete it quickly, and indicate that interest. There’s no penalty or risk for this; students who have an interest in this option will retain their space on the Alternate List for first entrance in August 2016 as long as space is potentially available.
Only those who respond affirmatively will be reconsidered for admission. Students on the Alternate List are not ranked. Your application will earn another individual review if the opportunity to extend more offers presents itself.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Associate Dean

So basically waitlist…

Ugh still on step 4, any idea if more will come out today or if it’ll be another day?

Wonder if that’s it for decisions today. My D is still on step 4 but other RD students at her high school have been accepted.

@amy989, I hope not. I’ve been incessantly reloading my portal since this morning (last night EST).

@amy989 Same here! It’s slightly reassuring though because students at my school have been accepted, denied and wait listed.

@crazymonkey444 did the students in your school receive decisions today?

@msdfan no all of them heard on friday or before

I’ll be checking my portal till 3PM EST. It’s possible that a decision may be released; I’ll let you all know if it’s updated or not!

@crazymonkey444 I’m so scared. I made a typo in my essay and have a below average sat score. Sat-2060 gpa 4/4 and a horrible interview. Uroch is my top choice :frowning:

Are the decisions released randomly or is there a specific pattern? (Ex: regionally or admitted students first then later on more rejections etc…)

@msdfan 2060 on your SAT is definitely not below average!

@laklouka13, I think it’s random by what I’ve seen on this forum. And @msdfan, I really hope you get in! If you didn’t notice your typo the first time reading it, I’m quite certain the URochester admissions officer didn’t notice it either! 2060 SAT is great, and a 4/4 GPA is stellar. I’m hoping for the best for you.

@crazymonkey444 considering that typo and the horrible interview a 2060 isn’t enough. Best of luck to u though. @WaywardVagabond i really appreciate your wishes. Best wishes to you too! Let’s hope we all get positive replies

@WaywardVagabond I think that might have been a wave of waitlists and rejections. I did not receive a decision. My apologies to anyone who did not get the response they were hoping for. College decisions are not a reflection of you as a person. The University of Rochester is quite competitive, and as much as it may hurt to get waitlisted or rejected, perhaps this just means that you were meant for another school. As the saying goes, “when one door closes, another opens.”

If you truly believe an error has been made, Rochester admissions has stated that you may appeal the decision through your guidance counselor.

To those who haven’t received a decision yet, I wish you all the very best!

I’m still on step 4 but does anyone know if Rochester sends a package of papers (instead of just a letter) or something that would show up on USPS Tracking? I checked and it says that I have a lightweight parcel coming but I don’t know if that’s from a college or just a random mail package.

It says it was shipped from UPS mail innovations, which seems to be a company for high volume mailing. On the website it says: “UPS Mail Innovations is a high-volume mailing service provider offering an efficient and effective way of delivering your mail. From postal costs to time in transit to packaging labor, our services can streamline, optimize, and synchronize your mailing process.”

So, @NotAMathlete, more chances for us? I do hope so, and I’m terribly sorry for everyone who got an unideal decision but like you said: it doesn’t reflect you as a person. I’m not expecting a positive response either, but I hope for the best. Thank you!

@beatingheart, they do not just send a letter in an envelope. It is an 8.5x12 type of envelope that has the same sized booklet in it along with an acceptance letter. Also, I totally agree with @NotAMathlete. My son was accepted to Rochester and Northeastern this past week. He was offered a Guaranteed Transfer from Boston University. What is interesting is from what I could gather from CC, the students with similar scores as he and higher were either outright denied or offered this guaranteed transfer. Not all of the students with higher stats, but enough that the students were noticing the pattern. Very strange. And definitely not a reflection of the students. It will all work out. Best of luck to you all.
