I know the school is great academically, but I'm looking to play college football. I recently signed up for a prospect day on campus but it had to be cancelled due to lack of interest, which sent up red flags to me. Is there anyone who attends the university or very familiar with it that they can say it is a good program?

My best friend’s sister goes there and she the football team is… well… they…for lack of better words - SUCK.

This is just coming from WHAT I HEARD from a student there, it isn’t 100% accurate.

I know that the girls basketball team made final four if that helps. :)

My nephew played there a number of years ago. They were 4-6 last year and only had 2 losses where they weren’t competetive. Are you being recruited by any DIII schools? here is their web page: [University of Rochester Athletics and Recreation](http://www.rochester.edu/athletics/football/index.php)

this may help also … [D3football.com: Teams by Region](http://www.d3football.com/regions.php?region=east) … over the last few years they have been slightly below average

Looks like they could be better this coming season. Of their 11 players who received all league honors (either first, second team or honorable mention) they have 8 coming back this season.

Contact the coach is my advice.

Team is undergoing a shake-up. The long-time offensive coordinator retired. Not sure who has replaced him.

I’m a sophomore at the UofR. I don’t know too much about the football team, but if you’re looking for a school with lots of student enthusiasm for our football team, I’m sorry to say that UofR isn’t for you =(!

Does U of R have enthusiasm about any sports teams?

UR students go to games mostly because they have friends who play on the teams they want to support, not because the team is going to take the division championship this year.

There are decent turn-outs for football, basketball, and soccer. But if you’re looking for Big Ten type rah-rah, UR is not the place.

I have to agree with WayOutWestMom. However, I think that our best sports team is our men’s squash team… They’re definitely one of the best squash teams out there. I don’t know how many people are big on squash, but I had no idea what it was until I went to a game, haha. But yes, they’re pretty good!

My d and her friends all attend quite a number of men’s squash matches. That’s primarily because the guys are internationals and cute!

At Rochester, the BMOC aren’t on the football team. They’re in the Midnight Ramblers.

I played football at U of Rochester back in the late 80’s. At the time, the team was ranked in the top 10 for division III. In 1988, they had their best season in years, losing in the DIII semi-finals (9-1 regular season). After 1988, several members of the coaching staff were hired at Columbia University to help turn the Ivy league’s worst football team (at the time) to a more respectable status (unfortunately to no avail). Coach Parinello took over at U of R as head coach. Although the program achieved some success for a few years, the program went down hill after '93. It’s a shame. Back then a lot of players earned all county and all state honors in hs. I had a partial ride to 1AA Rhode Island (had over 1000 yds rushing senior yr in hs), but chose U of R because I thought I’d get more playing time. I quickly found out that the three tailbacks ahead of me were also 1000+ yd rushers in hs (at big schools and top divisions). These days, with the exception of a few impact players, my sense is the talent level isn’t as deep as it was. It would be great to see the football program return to prominence. I think it’s very realistic for U of R to recruit, develop, and mentor true scholar athletes.
