Disappointing initial Scholarship offer of $40k over 4 years. Every other OOS school my D was admitted to has offered equivalent of In State Tuition Scholarships thus far. U of SC is the weakest offer. Considering the quality of the other schools, there would be no reason to pay more.
I think the offer has “at least” in front of scholarship amount. My guess is the amount will increase if students get accepted to Capstone or Honors.
What other schools offered in state tuition?
Or as students decline the offer (choose another school) freeing that scholarship money for others.
S21 got his Honors College decision this afternoon. Accepted.
Has anyone gotten the “at least” award notification and received more then that without the honors program? Mine also received the “at least 40k”. Grateful for any money but with a estimated cost of 48k a year, we can’t afford 38k out of pocket.
Not this year, but with D18 she got the “at least $10k/yr” with her acceptance, then they bumped it up to $15k/yr in March, even though she didn’t get admitted to the Honors College.
That is great news! 15k would be better then 10 making it more affordable. Mine got 15K from WVU and Udel and it puts both of them at a lower cost then SC but SC is her first choice…ugh
Just goes to show you how each school looks at things differently. My son got 85k+ (over 4 years) at U of SC but only 10k per year at UDel. And UDel is his first choice. Wish we could swap!
Mine loves Udel as well! I’d say it’s her very close second choice
Did he get email? Which school?
For U of SC the merit was in the admission letter. It stated $85k or more, we will find out the actual amount in March I believe. For UDel the merit award came several days after the acceptance.
@catmele I think maybe you meant which school within UofSC. It is Arts and Sciences, Environmental Studies major.
Where are you finding honors college decisions? Is there a new portal after the acceptance? I keep asking my D21 to check and I’m not convinced she is looking in the right place.
@hokiemama24 The kids get an email to check their portal, and then in the portal under the “It’s a Yes” banner but above the portal checklist, there is a section called status update. It now says “An update to your application was last posted December 23, 2020” with a clickable View Decision Update link.
My daughter got the “at least $10k/40k” per year/4 years in her letter as well. It’s a huge disappointment and a total deal breaker. With the other offers she has for instate tuition as an OOS student we were anticipating getting the $85k offer. It’s highly unlikely she will get that now it appears. It was one of her top choices but as it turns out the ROI for U of SC business school compared to her other choice is pretty low. The other schools all have ROI nearly doubling and even tripling that of U of SC for business graduates. Definitely not worth spending nearly twice the price for a much weaker return from schools including Ohio State, Miami U, Michigan State and several others.
I didn’t get an update for the honors college
Is there any significance to receiving an Honors College decision in December vs February? Does it have any bearing on the final scholarship award or did they just like my daughter’s essays?
My son is waiting also. I had read somewhere the responses come in waves.
Based on prior years threads it seems the December decisions are thought to be those “in the running” for the three Top Scholars scholarship levels (Stamps, etc). Other than that there seems to be no specific tie between notification date or HC decision and award.
D19 got December notification but then not Top Scholars invite in January. D21 did not get December notification. Both got the “at least $84k” with acceptance letter.
