University of South Carolina EA 2025

Interesting. Well, I won’t be getting my or her hopes up for that (Top Scholars)! I do know most kids haven’t heard yet. My daughter is in a snap chat group for Honors Applicants and only about 3 kids in the whole group have heard anything yet.

While I didn’t know for sure, that was my hunch at the timing as well (the Top Scholars receive their news earlier to help keep UoSC in the running as their other acceptances are rolling in).

My daughter is currently a sophomore in the honors college and found out about her acceptance to the honors college in December. Not sure if she was being considered for the Tops Scholars award at the time or not. Ultimately, she never received any information about being considered for it. My son who was just accepted to U of SC has applied for the honors college and we have not heard anything yet. His stats are not as good as my daughters but pretty close. Hopefully, we will hear soon.

I don’t know how to link to other threads or I would put it here but the South Carolina Honors 2023 thread is enlightening.

There were kids admitted to HC that were offered less $ than others who did not get into HC (offered Capstone) although it seemed the posters all got in-state tuition, so differences were +$500, +$2k or +$4k.

Yes, my understanding is that bulk of notifications come in February. Patience is a virtue.

We all loved SC when D19 was deciding. SC made deciding between SCHC and her forever dream school a very hard decision.

Congrats on your D’s acceptance!

Thanks for the info @GetCollege19! I’ll have to check that thread out. I have to say, the HC acceptance definitely worked. UofSC was high on my daughter’s list before but now it’s pretty much a done deal - especially the early acceptance; it’s nice to feel loved. Top Scholars would make her over the moon, but like I said, I’m not getting my hopes up.

Hey, prospective Honors College kids…My S19 is a sophomore in the HC. Loves it. Has had some intriguing (some might say bizarre) honors classes, like History Through Video Games and Experimental Music (I attended a public concert where the class made music using…paper.) His HC peers are smart and fun and come from all over the country. His honors advisor is a miracle worker with scheduling. S was in the very nice Honors dorm last year and is in an apartment at 650 Lincoln this year. 650 is reserved for HC students and student athletes and bills itself as “Luxury living for your college experience.” It is nicer than the first home I owned.

If anyone has questions, he is happy to answer.

S21 has been accepted to the HC as well, and it would probably be his choice except…he got into Georgetown, and imagines himself saving democracy in DC.

Thanks @SammoJ and @GetCollege19 for the great posts. And to everyone, the recent USC threads have been really helpful overall. My S21 was admitted to the HC in December, and has the $85K OOS award (we live in VA) to make things very attractive. He’s patiently waiting for admission decisions at UVa and Vanderbilt and final merit notifications from USC, UTK, Texas A&M, and Clemson (as well as honors college decision too).

Wishing everyone the best of luck!

They do one round in late December and then the rest are released in February.

Does USC look at first semester grades (even if already accepted) for scholarship purposes? I don’t see a requirement for a mid year report on the website, but wondering if it’s optional if the grades help overall GPA?

Hey! Does anyone know when top scholar and other scholarship notifications come out for this cycle? TIA!

My DD received an email (a few days ago, she just saw it yesterday) that she received an additional departmental scholarship from Chemical Engineering. (She also received the “at least 85k” in her offer letter.") So students, keep checking your email accounts!

That’s fantastic. Did she have to apply for it?

No. I mean if there was a general scholarship application, she would have done that (she managed everything so I don’t know the details of each school’s application), but I know there wasn’t an application to this specific scholarship.

Yes I did see that each department has their own general scholarship application so that is wonderful she heard!

How did y’all access your financial aid information? I received an email requiring me to make a VIP email but I didn’t get anything else besides that

Yes received the same thing with a vip Id but no change to portal ?

okay so I am not the only one who couldn’t see my fin aid package…phew

Tysm for the quick response!

did they give t shirts to everyone who got in?

In the Going Garnet admissions packet that came the mail (about a week after the decision was posted in the portal), D found a sheet (I think with a QR code) that let her request her free T shirt (and specify size). After she requested it, it took about a month to arrive.
