My son wants to go for Computer Science and has been accepted at both. We live in driving distance to Winthrop but
even if he chooses to go there I want him to live on campus. What school is better in the long run. Does one have a better program/reputation?
I can’t really speak to Computer Science in particular except that it’s part of the College of Engineering and Computing- which my daughter is a freshman there now for Biomedical Engineering- and she really likes it a lot.
That said, Winthrop is a much smaller school than USC so it will really come down to which type of school does he want to attend? Smaller or larger. And what type of environment around the school too … he’ll be there 24-7 so that matters a lot. A benefit of larger is that there are typically more amenities and programs…and if he decides to change his major, he’ll have more options at a larger school without having to transfer. My daughter was accepted to the schools near us too (UNC-Chapel Hill and NCSU) but didn’t want to go to school 20 minutes from home so she chose USC to get a sense of living “away from home” more. Just some things to consider…
