University of Tampa

Downtown Tampa is mostly a business district. Other than the historic Tampa Theater and the Performing Arts Center, they pretty much roll up the sidewalks at night. College kids tend to congregate in Ybor City, the club centric, funky part of town. The Channelside district by the port is also hopping on the weekends, as is the upscale International Mall. If anyone needs recommendations for dining or things to do in Tampa, PM me.

sorry to hear about that experience. while on our visit, the admissions staff seemed very nice and helpful. sounds like you and your daughter got the short end of the stick.

what were her stats? sounds like maybe they didn't get everything they needed in order to properly evaluate your daughters application.

not responding to letters, emails etc is not a good thing and seems odd based upon our visit to the school.

thanks for the input

here is a link to another university of tampa thread.

Thanks to all who posted and sympathized with our experience with the Admissions Dept. at Univ. of Tampa. I finally received a second denial of admission as a result of our appeal. Process and result was terrible but expected as I told the Dir. of Admissions just what I thought of his school and his department -- especially posting admissions results online before the student is properly notified. Would have been a moral victory if my D had been accepted -- she had no intention of attending the school after her negative experience.
Was accepted last week at Penn State Erie, the Behrend College. What a great school, great experience, great price, etc. This school (like Tampa) has one of the few "Creative Writing" programs in the East. Certainly the campus location and weather are a huge difference from Tampa but the atmosphere is similar and so is size. But at Erie, students have the attention of a small school and the strength and resources of a large University. Seems like the best of both worlds to me.
Twin sister, D 2, is still waiting to hear of acceptances at University of Rhode Island, Quinnipiac University (CT) and deferred status at Salve Regina (RI). Had very nice tour/visit at URI -- impressed with that school, as is D but she still prefers Salve Regina. Nice tour/interview/lunch at Quinnipiac but I didn't like the school. Campus is very new -- looks like it was plunked down next to the mountains last year. Freshmen students are housed in either 3 or 4 people rooms -- not suites, mind you -- but rooms with either 3 or 4 girls/community bathroom, etc. I think the college adjustment is hard enough without worrying about 3 other roommates!!
So, we wait . . . and wait.
