I am looking to apply to UT next year. From what I have seen online, it seems that that the admissions at UT only looks at the English and Math subscores from the ACT, which they then plug into their formula to make admissions decisions. However when I called their admissions people, they told me the scoop is that they just look at ACT composite. I am not sure how reliable the person was, so I’d like to know if it’s true if they only look at English and Math sections or if they really do just assess using the composite scores.
It is very possible that the formula online (which is several years old) is out of date. Most likely, what admissions told you is correct.
I don’t think that’s correct. They would have updated their website if the formula was outdated. I mean if that admissions person knows what he or she is talking about then I’m stoked.
From what I can tell, UT has never really volunteered any info about their admission formulas. My understanding is that the admission best practices report (which includes the formulas) was produced in the Fisher litigation. And the next-most-valuable info is from the Kroll report (investigating allegations about political favors, etc.), which obviously was not voluntary. So I have no expectation that there will be any public disclosures if/when changes are made to admission practices. That’s why I’m saying that our info is a little dated and we can’t be sure it’s still correct.
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
